Ben holds the ball too long
Ok. I get it. He sometimes holds the ball too long. Has anyone else noticed that there probably isn't even 1 pro bowl player this year on offense? We won't even get into the fact that we all knew the line would be a problem going into this year. The problems with Arians is a mini series in itself. Most of the talking heads thought that going into this year the Stillers had lots of weapons on offense. Mendenhall was hurt, but we've probably got more than most of us expected out of Moore. Heath is probably the closest thing we have to a pro bowler, and he gets ignored far too often. Your call, Ben or Arians on that one. Hines is aging and is a possession reciever at this point, and outside of his great blocks is a shell of his former self. For all of Santonio's, "I've put the work in this off season talk", he still looks like a poor mans A.R.E.. Nate has had his moments, but is probably suited best to his role as a 3rd receiver. The matchups on the other teams 3rd or 4th CB doesn't hurt. Sweed is still a work in progress. For all the 10 catches or so (yes I'm too lazy too look it up) Spaeth has you might as well put a tackle eligible out there. So, while I think Ben has had a down year by his standards, I think Tomlin said it best when he said, "all that matters is winning" in response to Parker. And while Ben has frustrated all of us this year, maybe it's time we looked past the seemingly obvious and accept that this isn't a very talented, and poorly coached offense around our franchise QB. Here's hoping that Ben finds the magic come playoff time.
P.S. For all of you that want to replace Ben with Byron for an extended period, please remember that he was an interception machine when the defense had time to scheme for him.

Santonio looks like a poor man's Randle El? Dude, where did everyone get the notion that A.R.E was a spectacular player or something? Hes a #3 receiver at best. For Christ's sake, look at his stats for the past few seasons. Shit Randle El looks more like a poor man's Nate Washington. And if you're talking about his punt returning skills, have you watched any Skins games lately? The guy runs backwards and falls when he gets a hole. Its the most bizarre thing I've ever seen.

Ben holds the ball too long which leads to a better passer rating which in turn leads to achieving performance incentive clauses in his contact. A incompletion hurts your rating as a passer. Final Analysis: $$MONEY$$

Re: Ben holds the ball too long
The one game Ben tried not to hold the ball too long was against the Doltz..... Ended up tossing INTs in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory..... (Ben was sacked only twice in that game.)
I think Arians' schemes are to blame more than anything else, including even the pass protection. We must be dead last in the NFL in short yardage play fakes, to name one deficiency amongst many. It could also explain why opposing D's tee off on the backs in short yardage. They all know it's not going to be a fake. They simply load up the box and stuff it. Time and time again.

Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.

Yeah, I agree. And you know what? It's beyond stupidity to be doing that. I mean nobody who can put two sentences together is dumb enough to keep playing that way. There's gotta be something else involved here. Wish we had someone on this board who was privy to inside info who could inform us.

My point was that I don't think either are better than a #3. At least ARE was a good influence in the locker room. Tonio just has the hook up for after the game.

Re: Ben holds the ball too long
peyton mannig looked like he held the ball to long the first month of the season when the colts were playing awfull, the media said he was holding the ball to long and taking bad sacks ect...
Then all of a sudden the colts got thier injured offensive linemen back, started winning and now some people have him as an mvp candidate. go figure!
2 yrs from now the steelers will field a good offensive line and everyone will say wow, ben has really grown as aqb , look how fast he releases the ball.
brady will come back to a aging offesive line that is half as effective as it was last season and everyone will be saying he is holding the ball to long..
Shit lines make qbs look like thier holding the ball to long, end of story!

Agreed! Mediocre receivers that can't get open can have that affect as well. I would have to see an overhead view of the game to know if that's part of our problem.

And Jerome Bettis is from Detroit. What's your point?
Re: Ben holds the ball too long
I think that one of the main problems is that the offense takes too long to start the play. So the play clock runs down to 1 and everyone in the world knows when Ben's going to snap the ball. That lets the defense get a running start and time the snap perfect. If you look at the sacks today, and the Philly game especially that's the culprit.

good point....one that Simms made during the game
Re: Ben holds the ball too long
Well apparently, GODSENDS are SUPPOSED to hold on to the ball forever and run around and needlessly fumble the ball.
Re: Ben holds the ball too long
We get it, you don't like Ben nor will you ever. Just the fact that you would want Lefty to run the offense instead of him shows your complete ignorance. I'll take Ben holding on to the ball trying to make plays, even when it turns out badly, so that he keeps on delivering like he has troughout his whole career.
THAT WAS ONE OF THE GUTSIEST GAME WINNING DRIVES I'VE EVER WITNESSED, PERIOD!!!! Sure, our D did their job and has been awesome all season. The fact remains Big Ben DELIVERED under the grimmest of circumstances. 92 yards, Ravens D at home with a record crowd, with the division title on the line!!
Geez, some people just can't see farther than their freaking noses. You just witnessed a drive for the ages, specially in Steelers lore, and yet you still find a way to bitch about Ben's play. Amazing.
The guy is a proven WINNER and I'll take that any day. It's starting to feel like 2005 all over again.
HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!!!!!

To the poster(s) and media members....BR7 took the piss out of you tonight during his press conference. He did it with a straight face but the rebuttal was made....

Re: Ben holds the ball too long
Ben does hold the ball too long. 9 out of 10 plays are snapped with 2 seconds or less left on the clock. If we would do some quicker snaps it would be so easy to draw the other team offsides with a hard count.
This is probably not the right forum for this but as of today we have played the top 6 defenses in the nfl. Or will play with Tenessee next week. Bascially 7 games this year against the top defenses in the NFL. What other team can even say this.
I think the offense will come to life next week and look out in the playoffs.
Arians still has to go but we can score points inspite of him.
Team G Pts/G Yds/G RushYds/G PassYds/G
