Postby Steelhope » Tue Dec 02, 2008 7:33 pm

Steeler's ranked 3rd behind Green Bay Packers and Boston Red Sox.....how the hell is that possible....has anyone EVER seen a "Packers Bar" outside of Green Bay???? I live in South central PA....supposedly Ratbird and Eagle country....taint so folks ....Steeler Nation is very strong here and when local TV does not have our game on... many bars become Steelers Bars if they weren't already!!! :subngtowl:

At least we beat the damn girlie men Dallas Cowboys. I agree with you though, in my area of the country KY, the Steelers are far more popular than the Packers and the Red Sox for that matter.

The survey was done on each of the market cities and is geared towards giving companies a barometer on how much bang for their buck they'll get from advertising. They researchers said it wasn't that anything changed from one year to the other regarding the Steelers, just that there was probably increased attention to the Packers with the whole Brett Favre drama when it was getting done.

It also doesn't take into account national and international fans, which without a doubt Steeler Nation is by far the biggest and best around the world. I've traveled quite a bit and found this to be true. You wouldn't believe the legion of fans in Mexico for example.

I don't know what this survey or whatever it is was based on, but one comment I would have is that although the Red Sox have always had a pretty strong following, "Red Sox Nation" has really emerged over the past 5 or 6 years. They are a very trendy team right now, whereas I would look at the Steelers and Packers as both having had a stronger following over the long haul. But that's just my opinion

the research wasn't out to measure national following, but following in the local market
When this data was being taken, Red Sox had just won the world series (October 2007)
Bret Favre was having his last year in Green Bay and everyone knew it
Everyone in those towns was paying attention

Steelers measured higher than Pats who were on their way to "19-0 perfect season"

There's one here in KC. Packers fans are legit, but they don't have a community anything close to the Steelers.

In spirit of this week's game...

I live in Dallas/Fort Worth. There was a bar I used to frequent that was a Steelers bar without being a Steelers bar. No promotion. No marketing. Just a place where Steelers fans accumulated in masses.

Average Cowboys fan turn-out: 50-60.

Average Steelers fan turn-out: 80-100.

Again... I live in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Damn right. Here we go. :sucope:

I live in Santa Cruz and there's a sports bar at the Hyatt in Monterey with like 50 tvs, but only one big screen. Their rule is whatever team's fan shows up first on sunday morning, that team gets on the big screen. I can't tell you how many times I showed up at 8:00 in the goddamn morning to see like five or six steelers jerseys already hovering around the front door waiting for the joint to open. 2500 miles from Pitt and goin strong.

Wow, you need to get out once in a while. Actually there are Packer bars all over the country. I know there are packer bars in KC, Vegas, 2 in AZ, 2 in southern cal, and I think Atl. Not to mention the dozens in Chicago and Minneapolis.

I'm a steeler fan stuck in Wisconsin so I've seen the packer thing first hand....they travel like Steeler fans do when they are good. There probably are more steerler fans accross the country though, that's why steeler fans take over opponents stadiums on a regular basis.

I think they are talking about brand recognition. If you show a non football fan or even a foreinger the two logos....odds are more will know the Packer logo. I'm not sure why but it's true...there was a study done a few years ago that talked about it...I'm guessing this is something similiar. I'm surprised the RedSox were up there though. If I remember correctly the Yankees and Cowboys were the other two most recognized logos on earth (among sports franchises)
