Heinz field getting new grass

Thank god, I seriously think they should go with the field turf though. Our field has already been responsible for some players getting injured

Re: Heinz field getting new grass
"Steelers chairman Dan Rooney has resisted installing artificial turf because his players strongly favor playing on grass."
I seem to agree, the artificial doesn't have the same give as grass does. The spikes get caught up in the rubber or plastic base sometimes... the only cons with real grass is that it gets beat up, which causes injury and it gets slippery when wet.

Re: Heinz field getting new grass
I think if the Steelers insist on a natural grass surface, they need to either 1) invest in a new venue suitable for these HS games, or 2) totally rebuild the field's infrastructure to improve drainage.
Or maybe Pitt needs to return to a normal college venue. Cincinnati has the Bearcats (now in the same Big East Conference), but unlike the Panthers, the Bearcats play in their own (Nippert) stadium. (And Cleveland has NO other games in their place. Real grass is just fine there.)
The field at Heinz is DD Grassmaster, which is supposed to be a natural/artificial hybrid that's more-durable than all-natural grass. But I wonder if the product really lives up to its claims.

Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.

A new layer of grass will be laid atop the current playing surface at Heinz Field on Sunday, a few hours after completion of Saturday's four district high school football championship games. The new turf will be in place for the West Virginia-Pitt game on Friday afternoon.
WOW.
Just WOW.
They did this just before last year's disastrous mug bog against Miami. The game that ended 3-0. I'll always remember that punt that dug nose first into the turf.
The field is DANGEROUS.
What a joke.

Seriously, didn't they learn anything from last year?

The field turf doesn't seem to result in as many injuries as traditional astro turf. I don't have stats however. Somebody in power needs to look up the stats and take a serious look at either a sod with a better drainage suystem or field turf. You can't tell me that turf is more dangerous than that crap we played in against Miami last year.

Except this time, there won't be a game just a couple of days later the way there was when they did this last time.

Re: Heinz field getting new grass
Can any home owners in Pittsburgh explain why it's so damned hard to get grass to grow on Heinz Field?
Re: Heinz field getting new grass
It is November in the northeast, a dormant period for grass growth---also homeowners don't have 200-300 pound athletes fighting it out on their lawn...best solution is Field turf, second best is getting Pitt and the High School games the fuck out of Heinz...
