Showing his true self, Obama was OFF teleprompter at his first newsconference as President-elect, and took swipes at a little old 87 year old lady AND WAS COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT WHAT HE SAID.

President-elect Barack Obama asked Americans at his first news conference to end partisan bickering and "politics," but he used his forum to take a swipe at former First Lady Nancy Reagan.
The not-so-kind comment was made after Obama was asked how he was preparing for the job of president.

"Have you spoken to any living ex-presidents," one reporter asked. "I was wondering what books you might be reading, everyone wants to know what kind of dog are you going to buy for your girls, and have you decided on a private or public school for your daughters?”

Obama responded: “Hey, I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any séances . . . "

The remark garnered a laugh from the press, though the statement was not true.

In fact, it was First Lady Hillary Clinton who admitted to having at least one séance in the White House residence in which she and a small circle of friends summoned the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt.

Nancy Reagan had consulted an astrologer during her White House years. Mrs. Reagan said she did so after her husband was shot almost fatally in 1981. She said she feared for his life and thought the astrological information might help protect him.

Mrs. Reagan has not responded to Obama's swipe. The former first lady was hospitalized last month after sustaining a fractured pelvis.

Late Friday, news reports indicated that Obama had called Mrs. Reagan to apologize for his remarks about her.

At a news conference in Chicago, Obama said he had spoken with all the living presidents as he prepares to take office in January. Then he smiled and said, "I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any seances."


The 87-year-old former first lady had consulted with astrologers during her husband's presidency. But she did not hold conversations with the dead.


Obama spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said the president-elect later called Mrs. Reagan "to apologize for the careless and offhanded remark." She said Obama "expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share, and they had a warm conversation."


It actually wasn't Nancy Reagan who was linked to conversations with the dead; it was Obama's top Democratic challenger for the presidency, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.


In either case, use of the word "seance" might be overstated.


Nancy Reagan consulted an astrologer to help set her husband's schedule, wrote former White House chief of staff Donald T. Regan. The revelation created a furor and President Reagan even broke with his policy of not commenting on books by former White House staffers.


"No policy or decision in my mind has ever been influenced by astrology," Reagan said.

These kind of gaffes on an international stage could cause serious problems.

the media says a few UN-NAMED aids who are making excuses for their candidates loss, spread rumors of Palin not knowing some things - TOTAL HEARSAY. this kind of crap wouldn't even be admissible in a court of law.
You believe these rumors about her because you want to believe them, rather than because they come from a credible source.

Reagan used astrology throughout his time as president and as gov. of california he signed a bill to change astrology from "fortune telling" to a business. He used astrology in every aspect of his time as president. It is well documented by his astrologist and his chief of staff.

Reagan was also obsessed with flying saucers. Reagan admitted in a 1984 Presidential debate against Walter Mondale to having "philosophical discussions" about Armageddon by alien invasion in the White House with fundamentalist preachers. He also talked about the possibilty of an alien invasion from outer space on December 4, 1985, in a speech at the Fallston High School in Maryland.

You are confusing two totally unrelated things here.
Obama's half siblings in Kenya have said he was born there.

It's not a big leap?It is either true or it is untrue, and what Obama said is UNTRUE. He has admitted as much. Saying something untrue about someone certainly is slander. That is why Obama applogized.

It was reported by his own personal astrologer and everything reagan did was set by his astrologist recomendation. He based what day he would do everything according to his astrologist and his chief of staff. I'll post the links tommorow when I get off of work.

I see the fact that Obama made the mistake of mixing up astrology and a seance as very similar things. The difference is that Reagan used astrology in his every day life and so did his wife. They based their schedule on it and that is even noted by the reagans themselves.

Post whatever you want. President Reagan flat out said none of his policy was based on astrology, and some guy who wants to sell some books saying otherwise ain't real credible. (Though it is well know that Nancy said SHE scheduled things based on Astrology.)

On the Palin thing - We don't know where the Rumors are coming from. We know reporters are telling us they are from "unnamed McCain aides". We also know McCain's top aides have come out and said the rumors are untrue.

Palin may have to "get back to you on that", but it was Obama who said a certain issue was "above his pay grade."

BUT ALL OF THAT IS A DISTRACTION FROM THE POINT OF THIS THREAD,
which is that Obama got it wrong. He was off his teleprompter, and slandered an 87 year old woman, and indirectly insulted a certain female senator from New York. He put his foot in his mouth. I give the guy credit for appologizing though.

Reading the posts of guys like Steelhammer, Deathwind, and TinyJoe is entertaining, if nothing else. Listening to them whine and moan like little bitches is funny. Their attempts to drag down the new President are pathetic. "He slandered an 87-year-old woman!!!" "He was born in Africa!!" "He's a socialist!" Blah blah blah...at least, when I bitch about Bush, it's about something real, like, torturing prisoners of war, starting wars over imaginary weapons of mass destruction, and nationalizing the banking industry, which, is SOCIALISM.
