Leftwich the better option right now?
This may not be a popular view and lord knows the Steelers have invested BIG money in Ben but it looks to me like Byron is making quick reads and getting rid of the ball vise--taking unecessary sacks like Ben is. I love Ben and think he is a fantastic QB but he really needs some work. It seems like he has regressed in his maturation as an NFL QB. Ben used to be able to get outside of the pocket as he felt it collapsing and make plays..he is not doing much of that. It is almost like he is making a conscious effort to stay inside the tackles..and I think he has been told to do so.
This won't happen, but I would like to see Leftwich get some more PT. If anything, it gives Ben a breather and lets Byron get some action in game situations so he can be ready if needed down the stretch and in the playoffs. Ben needs to start making quicker reads and when there is nothing there, he needs to get the hell out and make somethig happen happen or chuck it out of bounds.
Ben couldn't have made that play to Santonio. Leftwich got rid of that thing in a split second and had much more juice on it than Ben ever has when throwing those quick hitters to the wideouts. Lefty zipped it to Holmes so qick, he had time to make a quick move and launch himself into the end-zone. Ben has a strong arm..Lefty has a BAZOOKA! In fairness to Ben, the Redskins pass--rush pales in comparison to the Giants or Eagles.

Agreed entirely.
Ben is getting his ass kicked, and this can't continue forever.
Lefty showed himself to be a more than capable replacement.
The team didn't skip a beat when they switched quarterbacks.
If nothing else, watching Lefty might get Slow Ben Roethlisberger to speed up his decision making.
How 'bout some props for picking a 28-year old healthy Leftwich off the scrap heap??

Now we have slow Ben Roethlisberger, and fragile Willie Parker ... what next ? Fat Casey or no hands Taylor or something? How about no Moore returning?

I think Ben is banged up and it wouldn't hurt to take a series off here and there. That said, he's the far superior QB. We better hope that Ben can play this week. The cover 2 of Dungy will take advantage of Byrons long windup. It gives the defenders a much better chance to make a read than man to man.

I like Moore returning kicks instead of Davenport. Moore got us to the 25-30 yard line almost everytime. I can see him breaking a big one.
Re: Leftwich the better option right now?
When you play Defense like the Steelers play Defense, who gives a fuck who's playing QB.
Re: Leftwich the better option right now?
I think what Leftwich said helps describe what is happening. He is healthy -- and Ben is not.
It also looks like the Steelers changed the offense in the first half to run one short play after another to prevent Ben getting hit as much. I think the pounding is really getting to him. He also is not running now which I think is hurting the team. Once a defense knows you will not run for the first down when you move in the pocket, it really changes how they react.
Leftwich came in healthy and played strong.

Byron's windup makes me fear the 'ball slap' from some d-lineman...but I was very impressed with his velocity, decision making and poise.

Anyone who thinks Giant Gary Coleman is better than Ben is a idiot. He's a very good back-up QB, but that is all. You knew some fuckin' stupid Homer was gonna come on here today and pose the question. If Ben is hurt fine, Let Giant Gary Coleman play. If Ben can go then he's the starter.

Ben is having a rough time this year.
His numbers this year are similar to his numbers from the windshield year.
It is frustrating to watch because I really like the guy.
With all of that being said, I think he should still be the starter if he's ready to go.

Haha Giant Gary Coleman cracks me up every time. He throws the ball and struts up the field like he is a fucking pimp
That being said a healthy Ben is on a whole different fucking level.

Too bad Ben is NOT healthy nor is he playing well at all. Right now he needs to rest and get healthy. Let Lefty play as long as he plays well get rested for Dec and Jan. or have Ben play (horribly) now an struggle and possibly get a season ending injury.
Re: Leftwich the better option right now?
Healthy ben is way better than leftwich. but 100% leftwich is better than 50% ben. If that shoulder needs time to heal, let it heal, lefty is a capable backup that can start a game or two. We need ben healthy going into the playoffs because without him at his best, no super bowl for us.
on that qb sneak i was totally hoping for letting willie take it up the middle for the TD. even more so after the fact, because that TD resulted in a potentially costly injury

Ben is an amazing QB, but he is too banged up and can't function well. Ben used to run, he doesnt do that anymore. Leftwich is strong and healthy. He should play for the next couple games and let Ben rest cuz he needs it. We got Ind, San Diego, and Bungholes at Home all three games. Maybe Leftwich should play all of them to let Big Benny rest. Our run offense is strong and all three of these teams can't stop the run. Plus our defense is strong as well so I think Ben can sit and it wont be a big factor. Anyone disagree?

The problem is that Ben is so big that it seems to me if he wants to start, he will start.
I think Ben will place himself into the starting lineup for the next game.
Remember: if you game plan for Lefty, you can beat him. That's how he ended up on the QB scrap pile.
And, Lefty does not even know the Pittsburgh offense yet.
The 'Skins did not plan for Lefty, and he was effective.
So, I hope Ben plays and we keep Lefty as the unexpected surprise, to play well when we really need him.

Agreed Nel. You play zone against Lefty and read the long delivery. I appreciate the job he does as a backup, but there's a reason he couldn't start in Jacksonville or Atlanta. I think he's smart and throws well, but he's never bothered to fix his fatal flaw.

Moron?? I think not. And who said Lefty is a better QB than Ben>?? At this point Lefty is better than Ben because Ben is obviously playing hurt. Aside from the JAX game he has been subpar for quite some time and I would like to see Lefty play until Ben is completely healthy.
You seem like a typical HOMER with no football sense at all. Ben was awful against the Skins before being pulled from the game after re-aggravating the shoulder injury he sufferred in week 2. We are 6-2...this would be the PERFECT time to get Ben some rest..this was all I was saying....now don't you feel silly? You might try to remove your mouth from Benji's nutsack and work on your reading comprehension Mr. Meathead.

Re: Leftwich the better option right now?
Jumbo, while I don't like the smack (I know. It's the internet), I agree that it might be wise to give Leftwich some PT. I would consider making Ben the second QB for a week or 2 until he's healthy. At least as the second QB he could come in if Byron struggles. A healthy Ben is a top QB, but this isn't a healthy Ben. Big picture is a SB, and I don't like our chances if our starting QB is dragging his throwing shoulder around.
P.S. I don't think it hurts to let Roth see someone else run the offense for perspective.
