What's a "Bot"?
Ok. I gotta ask:
What's a "Bot" and why does Google and Yahoo each have one.
And why is Baidu a Spider?

Re: What's a "Bot"?
Hammer,
Bots or spiders are programs that "crawl" the web to update search engine content. Yahoo and Google are highly active and have the "intelligence" to identify sites that have frequent updates. For such sites, they will visit more frequently.
As for the terms -- the spider term is used to tie into the "web" while the bot term is used because those programs do work on their own like a robot.

Actually, the bots do my laundry, dishes and lawn mowing so I can do more drinking.
I'll try to put in a good word though.

Nano technology already has microbots building and processing on their own once initiated, like an independent life form.
