Not a Mock Draft
First, I'm no draft expert, and I'm not trying to be one, but the bye week gave me some time to think.
I was trying to get a feel for who to sign and who to let go, Oline wise at the end of 2008-09.
I know no real draft goes by need but this mock one is mostly need based. I based team needs on 8 randomly selected mock drafts.
Notes: Never try this before the trade deadline.

In round 1 Tyson Jackson was very tempting, but if Stapleton contiues to hold his own this season, and is not the future Center, and Alex Mack is all people seem to think he is, go with the next great Steeler center. DL men for Pittsburgh eat up blocks, not what a 1st rounder usually wants to do for a living. Herman Johnson, Ciron Black, and Phil Loadholt are options also.
Round 2 then leaves OT or DL as a priority. I don't see an LT in the group, and RT is not a concern this early. I only did not take Fili Moala due to comments about off field issues, if that's not the case, he's the pick. I see at this point that if I had gone Jackson in rd 1 Jonathon Luigs would be available in 2 that could be something to think about draft day. I don't know anything about the CB's available that would be the only other position I'd look at here. Size wise D.J. Moore would seem to fit here.
By round 3 it's pretty much the best CB available, maybe Keenan Lewis, due to the size. In real life, another DL or OL man could be the pick here depending how they fit compared to a CB on McFadden's contract status.
The problem I see is no LT for next year if Smith and Starks go away. It is looking like, hold on to your hats people, but the 15 or so mil. available next year may be for a FA LT, like Jason Peters from Buffalo, who was trained by Zierlein, coecedence? I hope not. (I don't think he signed an extention, but don't recollect for sure.)
2009 starting O line; LT Peters, LG Kemo, C Mack, RG Stapleton, RT Colon. Backups Hills, Essex, Hartwig. Could be something.
