Steelers' Woodley named AFC defensive player of the month

Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley, who had 7 1/2 sacks and an interception during the team's four-game winning streak, has been named AFC defensive player of the month for October.

Woodley's 7 1/2 sacks in October, which came while Pro Bowl linebacker James Harrison was out with an eye injury, are the second-highest in team history for any month. He also had 25 tackles in the past four games.

if worilds can't get 2 sacks from woodley's position this weekend does that mean mill is wrong?

Mill wins either way. If Worilds gets sacks its proof that he's better than Woodley, or at least as good for way less money, or that its just a result of the scheme that put him in place for dong sacks. If he doesn't, it's proof that LeBeau is an idiot and can't scheme for shit. Besides, Woodley has probably been dogging it in team meetings all week, which has interfered with the other LB's ability to pay attention.

If look at Mill's core assertion he's right. At the core of the Woodendong Report is the point that Woodley isn't an elite 3-4 OLB, which I agree with. He's a good fit for the scheme, sure. The thing is he's overpaid for what he's capable of. He's not the gamebreaker Harrison has shown himself to be consistently, but he is able to make the play when those around him open up the lanes for him. He doesn't make his own plays happen often enough, and has shown he could be replaced easily enough if he goes down. Sure, Woodley's decent, but he's not the player his paycheck says he is.

S&B has the right point here. It's all about personnel selection and cap management. Woodley is not value at that price. Harrison, Polamalu making big bucks but performing at an elite level. Woodley is not.
