Beat the Pats?
Well, we saw quite a clinic last night by the Jags. What a display of coverage. That TD drive by ratbirds was an indication of hurry-up bringing results. Too late on the uptake there. Bad coaching - like us.
We'll NEVER see that even w/ weapons like Sanders, Wally, Brown running around and Hines as clutch, open somewhere.
Need to quick hit the routes as we cannot protect, that's for sure. Bellichek knows that for sure.
As for Pats, do we see Ike on Welker coming out of the locker room? Need to cover their TE's but it seems good TE's kill us. Why is that? We stop the short Welker crap and keep them from converting 1st downs, we can win the game. Their D is suspect.
Our problem, as always, will be inability of coaching staff to exploit an opponent's weakness and utilize (to the MAX) our strengths. Redman on conversions? - yeah, right. He's only about 9 out of 10 tries for converts. This moronic staff will continue to send Socrates on 3rd & 2, 3 outside to look for a dancing partner. "Say there, Big Fella, want to 2-step with me?".
So many weapons, so little creativity. It is sickening but it is what it is.

Re: Beat the Pats?
Like all great coaches, Belichick's forte is defense.
Arians against Belichick? Forget about it. That leaves Brady vs. our slow D. The only thing Brady has to worry about is Troy doing his unpredictable things, which are tought to prepare for. The Pats will send somebody out to tie up Ike, and then dink and dunk in the 5-10 yard range and make our linebackers look like a bunch of sniveling idiots, not allowing Troy to get into the action. When we try to adjust, look for some pinpoint 20-yard outs by Brady and some dumpoffs to the running back and/or sweeps. We are toast.
The only prayer we have is to go early and often to the no-huddle. It takes Belichick out of the equation. The Pats D is made up of merely passable personnel made good by being extremely well prepared and able to make rapid adjustments to whatever game plan the opponents bring - adjustments orchestrated by BB.
You may hate him but Brady is the greatest offensive weapon of all time, and he's playing in an era where the rules have been tailored to his strengths. Don't let a miserable game against the likes of Buffalo fool you. He gets up for games like the Steelers because it's a worthy challenge.

Re: Beat the Pats?
Belicheat could use cardboard cutouts of JoePa as his linebackers & Ben would STILL throw a pick-six vs the Pats.
When I saw the Stillers were 3 pt dogs in the gm, I opened up my bank acct for the Pats.
The most disgusting thing is that Lebeau will use the same strategy he has always used vs the Pats - sit back too much.
The Stillers have the D to beat about 28 NFL teams. The others (Pats, Saints, Packers, & Colts w/ Manning) carve them up like turkeys.

Re: Beat the Pats?
I'd like to see the Steelers beat both of the next 2, but #2 is much more important than #1. The bad side about potentially losing to the Gays, is that would turn the Balt game into a must-win, with (more)serious playoff repercussions.

Re: Beat the Pats?
The key to beating the Pats is using a totally different game plan. I still think this team cheats. (When they do, it looks too easy. Like a video game. I don't see this with any other team, including the Saints and Packers. And the Colts with Peyton.) If we can come up with schemes that are removed from our noted tendencies, Brady will transform from HOF QB to Vinny Testaverde caliber. Just ask the Buffalo Bills.
The key is our LBs and secondary taking away the underneath plays (which are too quick for any pass rush to be effective), and forcing Brady to go deep. Welker is the best possession receiver, maybe in NFL history (or at least comparable to Jerry Rice), and I think risking the big play is a better strategy against Brady than allowing the dinks and dunks. I do think unlike the past two weeks, the absence of James Harrison will likely tip the game in the Pats favor. Especially if we take away the underneath passes.
And if we do give up a big play, as long as we can get sustained drives against the Pats "D", it could wear that defense down by game's end. We should only dial up the deep ball to keep the Pats "D" honest, but not overuse it, to where our defense ends up on the field more often. The best strategy against the Pats is to run long sustained drives on offense, and limit the opportunities for the Pats on offense. Keep Tom Brady off the field.

Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.
