blessing in disguise?
Given the piss-poor performance the Stillers have consistently put forth in years after the SB (at least post 1980) is it possible that the embarassment we received at the hands of the Ratbirds can be used to our advantage? The Mavens clearly are not as good as we let them look, (see Tennessee's victory today) nor are the Stillers as bad as they appeared. Don't get me wrong, I'm not sweeping the stairway to seven just because we spanked the Squawks. I'm just saying that, while the Ravens were clearly the better prepared, better coached team last week, I'm also not surrendering our spot as the team through whom one must go in the North just yet. In the offseason, I (like many others) prayed that the team would address the two most glaring holes: O-line and D-backfield. Apparently, no-one in the front office thought those were priorities, and we are left to make the best of it with what we have. Nonetheless, we have a proven winner at QB, some new threats at WR, and a few linebackers who can make a play here and there. Maybe we win alot of 36-34 games (which would not be my preference) but if we have any chance of getting back to the playoffs, let alone going anywhere once there, maybe getting absolutely bitch-slapped by our arch-enemies to start the year was exactly the wake-up call we needed. I'm just sayin...
