Who's Right, Mill or the Steelers Brain Trust?

Postby JimPgh1 » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:09 pm

Mill trashes L. Woodley on a weekly basis, much like he did Gildon, yet the Steelers have given him the Franchise tag.

Somebody's way off base here.

It's really hard to ignore how much of a non-factor he's been this year, when compared to all his previous ones. His stats are undoubtedly down, but his lack of consistent pressure and tackles in general are what really gives it away. Either he's simply in a slump this year (I kinda doubt this), or most likely he's waiting for a big contract and not risking any injuries by playing at a much lower level of intensity. We all know he's a great player because we have the Lombardi, he greatly helped earn, to prove it.

Besides.....having a franchise tag slapped on your ass is generally not a good thing. It usually means that your team is looking to replace you through the draft, but doesn't want a gaping talent hole in the roster. Oh sure, he'll make a decent amount of money....but probably not as much as a free agent.

OR, this could be Woodley's last big shot at getting a contract from the Steelers. If he plays like he did in '08, then maybe.

I'll be amazed if Wood plays above and beyond what we have witnessed overt the last two seasons.

He's just an average outside Linebacker on a good defense, who is regressing year on year.

He had most of us salivating early in his career, but he just hasn't taken the next step.

Keep him, see how he performs next season, . . . . if as I suspect he is average again, I don't see us being daft enough to sign him to big bucks!

Butler will be in charge and will ring the changes, time to see what Worilds can do, a season later and of course like normal we still don't know!!

Mill correct. :surockin:

I have to admit I was sucked into the Woodley hype after season 1. I thought Mill was out of his mind when he started ripping him so badly. But Mills constant criticism of Woodley made me pay particular attention to his play - Mill is right, Woodley is way overated. I don't think he is horrible, but he isn't close to hype. He's not worth the money they are going to spend on him.

This was solid. Woodley is a proven player who brings the intensity every week.

I am NOT saying that Woodley was a good this year by any means, however, it bears mentioning that he and Harrison are held on EVERY (and I mean EVERY) play.

Nahhh, thats a cheesy loaded question. In political terms thats called strawman, the device of a weasel.

They ended up stuck on Jason Gildon once upon time too. Look, when you have a defense that pits a bull on one side and a tazmanian devil on the other, your strategy becomes dependant on this. It does not mean that Woodley is any where near as good as he could be. Which he is not
