I pretty much agree on all points. Well put.

The biggest burn is that we, once again, snatched defeat from victory. I'm surprised at how much better of a team I think we ended up being (after I saw Green Bay in action) yet how much worse we played. Sad, indeed...

I saw most of thise lowlights in their development as well Mill. I was outraged at the redundant bubble screens to Wally that produced zilch. I was mortified by Benjies wobbling ducks thrown all night. I was saddened by the insistance on throwing to Wally while other receivers were in the clear. I was more and more depressed as opportunity went though the colon like last nights chili.

Day 3 and I am still enraged

Enraged I fully expect to be that for years to come. Losing a Super Bowl is totally unacceptable. I am still angry over losing to the Cowgirls in 95. Mill's right the defense shit the bed and was by no means great. How many years have been carved up by a spread offense? Seven years and Dick has not figured out how to defend against it. Any time we play against a quick release quarterback we get seriously carved up. The pass rush cannot get there in time and they get 6 to 10 yards on every threw. A simple chuck at the line of scrimmage to mess up the timing of the route results in the quarterback holding the ball to find another option thus pressure and happy feet later the game is ours. Pretty simple make them look further down field and earn it. Dick refuses to learn any new tricks like a old worn out coon dog that won't move from the porch. Move the old man to front office as a consultant if you can't put him out to pasture but this Loss should have never happened. Our past great defenses would have given up field goals at worst not touchdowns after a turnover. :(

Super Bowl 23.

Bengals 16, 49ers 13. 49ers get the ball with 3:20 left at their own 8. Two minutes and 41 seconds later, 49ers score a TD after an 11-play drive.

Anyone care to remember who the Bengals' DC was?

History repeats.

I tend to disagree with Mill on a number of issues, agree with him on others, but one thing I will have to post right now in a joking manner is that he is a crazy man - how could he stomach to watch that game two more times? At the second Rodger's kneel down I scrolled to my DVR setting and hit delete. I tried watching a bit on NFL channel last night but couldn't. Channel surfing alone brought be back to a 3rd down sack and the Mendy fumble. They played bad, just downright bad.

Miller wide open at the sticks on the 4th down incomplete to Wallace. Ben throws to him and we likely head down to win the game.

Aside from the loss per se, what hurts me even more is the talk of a megadynasty completely gone (for now) and Ben's status of "elite" is completely dropped.

Okay Still you got me. I defended LeBeau on your last bashing but now I agree that you are correct, but it goes deeper than just LeBeau. Once again the Steelers who should have been the favorite came into the game as flat as a earth before Columbus. Totally unprepared and not ready for the fight. Bad calls on both the offense and defense, a QB who just won't take his work seriously, bad stupid penalties and on and on. The whole night was just a abortion. And what about Troy. Where was the defensive player of the year all playoffs. Where was Ben all playoffs he absolutely sucked he doesn't need a friend as DC but a coach who will push him to the next level. Hopefully Tomlin will come to play next year with a new OC and DC. We shall see.

Mill you are letting Big Benjie off too lightly in this clusterfuk of a game. I count him as one of the keys to losing. He was not ready; he did not come to play. Big fuk was clueless for much of the game when you knew damn well that the defense was going to cave badly. Yes he had a couple of decent drives and hit some passes, but compare him to Rogers. Who was the qb who was throwing with confidence? Who was prepared? Who put the ball in the right place. Who got the ball out in time instead of clutching it like his dick? The answer to these questions is not big Benjie. He sucked ass. Maybe if there were some college pussy here, he would have been motivated....

Mill,

Fine analysis on a number of painful plays. The most disappointing aspect of the Super Bowl is that Pittsburgh actually had a legitimate chance to win - in fact, we were in the best position we had been in all night, with the ball and the chance to go ahead without being concerned about giving the ball back to Aaron Rogers with enough time to score. Imagine if the Steelers had played a good game and Green Bay had all of those dropped passes. (Or imagine that Pouncey was healthy and takes out one of the defenders on the Mendenahll fumble - the Steelers could have run the ball in for a touchdown on that drive and then again if necessary.)
A few final comments: LeBeau doesn't self-promote; everyone else does it for him. I agree with Mill's analysis of how the stats are somewhat padded in LeBeau's favor. (The Post Gazette still has a moron or two bragging about how strong the defense was this year at stopping the run - a virtually irrelevant accomplishment given the losses to the Pats (Brady), New Orleans (Brees), and Green Bay (Rogers)). On the other hand, everyone knew - throughout the season and before the Super Bowl and even today - that the secondary was the Steelers' (forgive me #43) achilles heel. There is only so much a defensive coordinator can do without the horses in the secondary. To LeBeau's credit, he turned on the blitz in the second half of the season, and that approach produced two victories against Baltimore and the playoff victory against the Jets. The Steelers need to draft for position this year, and that position is defensive back. Another point is that the offensive line, the other glaring weakness of this year's team, did at the very least a capable job under the circumstances. The rubber bands and Elmer's glue are going to disintegrate, but this unit overachieved. Finally, I don't really care about Ben R's "character" off the field; he has followed the contrition and character script required by the team and the league and he has stayed out of trouble. He is a winner on the field, but he was lousy in the Super Bowl. Perhaps it was karma - coming full circle after stinking against the Seahawks (but getting a ring) and dazzling against the Cardinals (and getting a ring) in his previous Super Bowls.
As always, Mill, thanks for the effort. See you next season, whenever that is.
