If Pouncey is out we need to sign Justin Hartwig
Justin Hartwig never signed anywhere after the Steelers cut him back on September 3. He was our starting Center for 2 seasons and went through training camp this season and so he knows the offense. I am fine with Legursky starting but we at least need Hartwig to be the backup. Center is way too important a position to go into the Super Bowl with only a 3rd year undrafted backup Center. I know it won't happen again but the safety that Legursky caused with his bad snap could have cost us the AFC Championship.

If Pouncey 100% isn't playing then all they need to do is put him on IR and a roster spot opens up.
However if they want to take a wait and see approach to see if Pouncey can play then we can cut DE Steve McLendon. Since this is only his 2nd year he can be placed on the practice squad like he was all of last season and about half of this season (this season is actually still considered his first season because he didn't play enough last season for it to count as an accrued season). The beauty of this is that they won't have to decide who will dress and who won't until Saturday or Sunday morning and so if by that time it is known that Pouncey definitely can't play they can put him on IR at that point and put McLendon back on the roster. And McLendon won't even have missed any practice because he will have been on the practice squad during the 10 days leading up to the game.

Re: If Pouncey is out we need to sign Justin Hartwig
Say Pouncey is well enough to play but not 100%- would you trust Legur to be the backup if Pouncey went out during the game? I don't know if I like him coming in for the Super Bowl...
Do you think the coaches would do that if Pouncey started, but didn't stay in? I'd feel more comfortable to have one more (good) option if that happened, but who would you cut?

There is only one game left no matter what. We could put Pouncey or Smith on IR.

Good point about Smith. From what I'm hearing Smith is less likely to go than Pouncey. Is that what they're saying in the Burgh? If so, it may be wise to IR Smith now and get Hartwig on the roster right away. Against all rational thought and for some strange reason I have a feeling Pouncey will be ready to go. I'm probably just being too much of an optimist. If Pouncey can't go I don't think it will be the end of the world, but Legurski does not second-level block like the stud rookie.
BTW - I have seen a few mock drafts and I haven't seen Mike Pouncey's name in the top 32. If he's available at our pick I would love to see the Steelers pull the trigger. However, I think they may draft the best avail CB. IMO, Tebow should be sending the Pouncey brothers half of his NFL salary.

Good idea in theory, but we have nod idea what Hartwig has been doing since august or what kind of shape he is in... i think it's kind of hard to sign off of months on the couch and step into the super bowl.

Yeah, lets sign a guy off the street who hasn't played a down all year. Then we can insert him into the starting center position for the super bowl. Brilliant! Don't forget the fact that he SUCKED horribly to begin with. Legs is an upgrade over Hartwig.
Well at least I got a good laugh.

No fucking shit Einstein! I was talking about signing him for back-up smartass! It gives us just a little more flexibility on an already thin O-line. Essex can only back-up so many positions and if Legursky and one other lineman get hurt then we are FUCKED! If Smith or Pouncey can't go then why keep them on the roster? Glad you gave yourself a laugh.

hope he is there at 32 if we had a Oline with 2 pounceys it would be a real upgrade

I think that we can all agree that the O-line has played better this year so adding Mike to an already improving line could make them upper echelon in the league. Sean Kugler has done a helluva job when you consider all of the injuries. Many people criticized the move when we picked him up from Buffalo.

I have seen Mike Pouncey's name on a few mocks going to Seattle, Philly, or Chicago. First and only OG in the first round. I also like on a number of recent mocks that they have the steelers picking 32nd.

Re: If Pouncey is out we need to sign Justin Hartwig
Has anyone looked at how healthy Willie the Colon would be right now, compared to Aaron Smith?
He was kinda ticked the Stillers kept a roster spot for Smith & inferred that maybe HE would be available as a poss healthy player, come playoff time. I
don't know what moving around they woulda made on the O-line, but considering the disastrous injuries they've had on the O-line, a semi-healthy Colon might have been a big upgrade considering where they are now, probly w/ Pouncey being scratched.

Re: If Pouncey is out we need to sign Justin Hartwig
I like Big Ben's lockerroom reference today that I will loosely paraphrase as dressing up Mike Pouncey with #53 next Sunday. After all, who could tell the difference.
Its too bad we just didn't keep Hartwig on the roster. A mixture of pride and $$$ sealed that departure - even though the steelers could have paid him in an uncapped year.

He grades much higher as a guard than a center and will be drafted as such by most teams.
Re: If Pouncey is out we need to sign Justin Hartwig
I can see Pouncey going for this game. The last report I read was that he's been deemed as Questionable. We'll see.
If they draft Mike Pouncey, he'll most likely be plugged in at RG... The Draft is a long way off though. I can see the Stillers making a move to get him if they deem it necessary enough to do it.

thats cause he was moved to center this year to replace his brother he played guard before his brother left for the nfl and he was a monster blocker at right guard plus he can fill in anywhere on the line he will be a first rounder for sure

Re: If Pouncey is out we need to sign Justin Hartwig
Correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't Hartwig talk a lot of trash when he got cut? Can't trust a guy IF that did happen. I think I remember someone said he was running his mouth bad.
