The steelers never make it easy! The SB for the jets was last week and we should have been all drinking and getting ready for work last evening around 8:30pm.
Lets hope Pouncey can play!!!!

Re: New Article: Stillers-Trippers Postgame Analysis and Grades
Fair enough, Mill. The second half was far too close than it needed to be - though I would say that the Jets adjusted and played up to their potential in the last 30 minutes. Who ever would have imagined that the offensive line would dominate the first half and that the Steelers would win with Ben R playing his worst game of the season? Tomlin is turning out to be a great post-season coach and Arians and LeBeau deserve credit for great performances in the first half that turned out to be good enough. Hard Hat to Mendenhall and the defensive line. Super Bowl should be superb.
PS I was disappointed that there were too many blitzes up the middle in the second half - coming from the side produced the fumble TD, perhaps the most important play of the game. And kudos to Ben R for running the ball when there was space and completing the key passes on the final drive to ice the game.

Mill, agree on the post game edit.
HOW MANY TIMES does it take for someone to figure out that when you smother someone in the first half, the game always seems to do a 180 in 2nd half. WHY do they insist on changing what works? Told family at half, THIS GAME IS NOT OVER BY ANY STRETCH. Just like what we did to Balt., Jets do to us. No corner blitzes, no Silverback, where was Troy?.
2nd game in a row, we see Mendy in the flat for big time play,........and that was it. 2nd game in a row we see Redman do his thing,.....then he gets to watch. Mendy busting thru off tackles to the outside? Working? Absolutely. That's we had to run up the middle all 2nd half.
Ben's interception to Sanders? Anyone see how ALL the receivers were deep? The middle of the field was a freaking parking lot and Hines looked like he was coming back into the area. I understand Ben under pressure and all, but with Ass Arians, it has to be all or nothing it sems.
Nothing ever easy with this bunch but maybe that helps at crunch time like this. We've been there!. Lord knows. Enjoying the win, no doubt, BUT, we to learn from this "going soft" stuff.

Better be careful, Mill. We'll soon hear from LeBeau's brainless fanclub living in their fantasy world of the past...

2 Questions from a "rookie":
Thanks for the godlike analysis Mill. I was close to cheering for the Steelers in the Super Bowl, but as usual, you talked me down. Well done. Could you help me what to believe and how to cheer by answering two quick questions?
1. How do the Steelers keep winning since they suck so bad? I keep telling all my friends what you say and then it ends up making me look bad when it doesn't happen. Help!!!!
2. Will you cheer for the Steelers to lose a close one or get blown out?
Thanks again for you time Mill.

Mill,
Analysis is dead on. You might add that Troy P was playing so far off the line of scrimmage and would drop back so much further that it was a wonder he was still in the stadium. Would give more credit to Miller and Kemo and even Scott for some great run blocking which helped win this game. Mendenhall ran down hill until as you point out they loaded up the box--Jesus Christ on one series they looked like the Jets didn't even have safety deep with 5 on the line of scrimmage and six lined up three yards behind. Is that time for a Play Action Pass..hmmm?
That effort isn't going to work in two weeks--Big Ben being the most obvious thing that has to improve--and we have to hope Pouncy is back. It looked pretty serious when he could put no weight on the leg. I think that big fat ass NT that the Packers have will be trouble for Legursky. Who is the third center on the depth chart???

I agree with the most part and was certainly frustrated by the second half struggles.
But you can't fault Dick LeBeau for Ike Taylor falling down, Santonio breaking off his route to go deep, and Clark for failing to get over the top. That touchdown goes on the players.

24 to to 3 at half-time and it turns into game, oh shit? The Jets went all out in the second half and while I was ok with "eat clock" strategy to start second half, by the time it was 24 -10 we needed to change. Kudos to the coaches and players for passing for the 1st downs to win at the end of the game, dont play not to lose! Great stop on 4th and goal. Waiting to hear analysis of how we stand vs Packers and A. Rodgers. Chicago seemed to shut em down in 2nd half?
Re: New Article: Stillers-Trippers Postgame Analysis and Grades
How can Dick get an F for the second half? The D gave up two TDs - 14 points. That's it. They had to play most of the second half becuase of the safety.
The O shit the bed in the second half. The D strategy was fine... And you failed to mention the fact that the D had to play another long series after the safety which gave them little rest. Had Dick known the O was going to go completly in the toilet then maybe things would have been a little different on D.
But you can't make him responsible for the Holmes TD when it was a slip by Ike, a horrid pass rush by Woodly and poor safetly play by Clark that led to that TD.
For the Jet offense to run 27 plays and eat up 13 straight minutes of the second half is pretty good in my book when the steelers only gave up 7 points in that span. Again, this was due to the horrid saftey by the Offense.
10 total net points were given up by the Defense - that's it - 10. Dick should have no where near a failing grade for any part of the game.

Re: New Article: Stillers-Trippers Postgame Analysis and Grades
My question is why the fuck be so scared of the Packers when they had a SHITTY game yesterday against the Chicago Bears who are a far worse team that the New York Jets? The Packers were the epitome of "slop and slather" yesterday on offense and defense. The Bears defense - shittier than the Jets and much more shittier than ours - only gave up TWO offensive TD's to the GREAT AARON RODGERS. The vaunted Packer defense couldn't stop the Bears' third stringer from making plays. Yeah, he gave up the winning INT - expected for a guy who hasn't had much playing time - but the guy was making plays where Cutler and Collins couldn't. The Packers DO NOT scare me, and they shouldn't scare you.
Re: New Article: Stillers-Trippers Postgame Analysis and Grades
Well Fucking done Mill. You are the master. When I read the ghost gazette or the talk over at the Maoist teeler message board I am blown away by how far you outclass all analysis. To the extent that the Steelers used your analysis - or lucked into it - was the extent of our success this year. To the extent that the coaches ignored your warnings was the extent of our failure. We managed to pull out many games by a gnats eyelash this year. I attribute much of this to Ben gettin er done in the clutch and of course, game winning heroics by the hard hat winners.
Note: I was scared shitless when Pouncey went down, but watched with glee as Legursky held practically 100% of his blocks for the remainder of the game. However, Pouncy gets to the second level on run blocking, something Legursky can not do, and this is why Mendys yardage fell off the table in the second half
CONGRATS Mill and thank you for a great fuckin year of hilarious and inciteful analysis!!!
HERE WE GO STEELERS! HERE WE GO!!!!!!

PG Heaven makes a great point--Pouncy does get to the second level of blocking all the time. that is the difference between a two yard gain and a seven or more. I hope he can make the SB, but if you so immediately cannot put weight on an injury that usually is more than a two week recovery. Legursky had better be ready and he did his job but you can't do the same things with him in run blocking as you do Pouncy.
Re: New Article: Stillers-Trippers Postgame Analysis and Grades
Awesome analysis, as usual, Mill. I have a question. Leading up to the game, there were some barely mentioned rumors about Ben losing his voice, having laryngitis, or strepp or some such shit earlier in the week. I'm not making excuses, but is there any chance that he was actually ill, and that it maybe contributed to his piss-poor play in the AFCC? I'm sort of hoping yes, as he has a couple weeks to get over whatever it may have been. Just a thought.
