Re: New Article: Best Bets (plus two)
Finally took a beating last time I played here after winning like 6,7, or 8 consecutive regular season picks. Got doubled up by the Ravens with the +7 on the Broncos, and the +3 Cleveland was certainly everything I have come to appreciate over the years.
Chargers -3.5 to the Titans- Going to go with Haven here and take the Chargers at home. It has been awhile since I have given points as opposed to taking them. Surely Norv would like to worm me here for insulting him and his efforts last season in January, but it is more important for San Diego to pick up a win in their own stadium vs. a conference opponent.
Vikings +6 over New England- Ideally this is a cover but don't win. The Vikings would be very attractive as a 20/1 pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. I don't usually subscribe to the notion of "too many points", but here is a spot where talent wise it would seem to apply. Can Brett Favre show up on Halloween as a wounded ol' gunslinger backed into the corner of a saloon who shoots his way out to fight another day? Maybe not, but it should make for good drama. Minnesota does have issues on defense. The front 4 has not controlled the line of scrimmage like they have in the past. Because of this it is hard to imagine Tom Brady not putting together a game winning drive if that is what this comes down to or maybe the Pats get blown out similar to Halloween 2004 Pittsburgh Steelers style. Hey NE, nothing has changed since I picked against your side last time

Houston +5.5 over Indianapolis- Just about everyone who I have picked a fight with over the last couple seasons is going to get a chance to get even during week 8. Peyton gets his chance to hang a loss on me here, and he gets it during his beloved prime time. All he has to do is beat the Houston Texans. The same Texans who dominated him and his team week one. These points have to be watched carefully on Monday. If the line starts to swing back towards the Colts I don't like this pick as much. At +4.5 or +5 Houston is more of a gamble, but at +5.5 or better the Texans look solid to win straight up.

The once impenetrable Williams Wall is now more like pud, and those two combined don't eat the amount of space of Vince Wilfork. Or maybe we should call him Vince Wilfeast. Good Lord! Wilfeast will fork, will spoon, or even will spatchula, just as long as he is getting fed that guy probably couldn't care less. The only conceivable place on the entire earth that Wilfeast could fit is at NT in a 3-4 defense, and yet Belichick is getting quality snaps out of him at DE. Tom "007" Brady appears to have rediscovered his cunning and ingenuity which made the no name offense of the Patriots so lethal in the past. Now they get Logan Mankins to play for them. New England looks legit right now, and I don't like it.
