I often think the same, but I also believe that Wallace cannot run those routes with desired effect. He is a one trick pony. I love that one trick however.

as far as the popup shelters - I remember reading a few years ago that teams are prohibited from having any permanent shelters like the one called for on the sideline. The steelers shade rigs are the best way to flip the bird at the rules. This isn't little league or world cup soccer. It is a league defined by rules at every turn. I need to find that rule somewhere to better define it for this board.

Mill, spot-on with this article. Tomlin should read your analysis instead of watching film or better yet, hire you to do this for him. You are so on-the-money with this team being sidetracked for this game...and the vaunted Steeler defense has a major, gaping, sinkhole-sized flaw...their pass defense...they are in a world of shit next week with Brees...God help us....

Wally needs to run that 'Go' route at least 4 times per game. I am guessing that at least 2 would be TD's or DPIs. I loved Dan Dierdorf's assessment of the play. Allen was giving a 5-10 yard cushion AND STARTED BACK-PEDDLING before the snap. Wally still blew by him and it wasn't even a close race. I have been preaching this for years... if you want to keep Safeties from playing run support in your backfield, make them play pass coverage 30 yards downfield. Thank God BR7 finally learned that it is next to impossible to over-throw Wally.

Mill, a strong write-up to accompany a troubling victory. I had thought that Baltimore solved the defense by throwing short (because the secondary is slow, they start deep; in addition, throwing short takes Polamalu out of the play except for the occasional tackle). But the weak pass rush allowed Miami to move the ball through long passes - a very troubling development. I am not sure how much of the blame goes to LeBeau; the coverage seemed to get better when the Steelers only rushed four men. I also agree with your "Where's Wally?" criticism - air it out at least once a quarter now that #7 is back - and am surprised you aren't more agitated about the debacle at the end of the first half. Poor play calling, poor time management, and poor execution after waltzing down the field. Hard hat goes to Hines Ward; Ben R should be considered because, except for the poor ball handling, he played a very good game.

This game showed everyone in the NFL just how to beat us. Stop the run, send pressure up the gut @ Ben and force him into mistakes. Any other Sunday even more average teams than the dolphins would of put up seven after being given the ball in the red zone twice. Sloppy effort by all. #1 team in the NFL my ass. We got thoroughly exposed today, and it showed the players were going into this game thinking they are the #1 team. Poor sloppy play. My hardhat award goes to Sanders, who after coughing up a fumble, hung tough, showed some grit and went out and made all his blocks (the ward TD) had some nice returns, and caught a big 3rd down ball. I hope by the end of the season he is starting and randle el is on the bench.

No hooplah about the ref's blatantly missing the hold on polamalu on the phins lone TD? Guy shot through the gap and got completely tackled and sat on while henne threw the ball. Phins fans have the gall to say Pitt gets all the calls and the refs/league are biased towards us. Oh pleassseee they refs made shitty calls all day on both sides of the ball. The whistle being blown on benjis late fumble was atrocious. Had this happened to us we would be outraged. I would of rather given them the ball at the 20, let our defense make a stop, drive down the field and kick the FG rather than be given the 3 points off a ref prematurely blowing the whistle. That leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

I don't subscribe to the notion that teams can "expose" another team. Each game is full of individual battles and some are won and some are lost, but every week is different. Each team has strong areas and week areas. There is no guarantee that the Saints can do what Miami did to us. Besides, all defenses try to stop the run and send pressure up the middle.

What I saw Sunday was the Steelers squeak by a pretty damn good football team down there in Miami. They have done a good job building that team and both of their lines have been above average the last couple of years. I don't think you can underestimate how much it must suck to be 300+ pounds and play in that weather, especially wearing black. Add to that the Harrison distraction, the loss of Smith, Woodley, and Flozell and you have a recipe for an upset in the making. (You could argue that Flozell has been the best lineman not named Pouncey) The most disturbing thing to me (besides asshole Arian's play calling) was that there was an element of intensity missing on the defensive side. I guess we can all thank our lawyer buddy Goodell for that shit. I am very concerned about our D-line!!!
