Death of Pittsburgh 1250 ESPN
ESPN radio pittsburgh, 1250 fired the Stan/Guy show and the Paulsen/Logan & Co. show over the weekend. So much for Steelers based radio in the afternoons this season. I loved to stream this and listen to all the yinzers calling in.
Format is all national now.

I don't know about you guys but I get sick of the national garbage of ESPN & just listen to the Fan, on 93.7 FM. It's Pgh sports, all the time - although I do get sick of all the talk of those sandlot Pitt Panthers. They broadcast those losers so I guess they need to discuss them.
I will miss Mark Madden on the Pens talk tho.

I think if the fan is smart, they will do whatever they can to get stan and guy in there for their 10-2 show, i personally can't stand ron cook and vinny, their voices just grate in my ears and i have a headache after about 10 minutes. and i think that scott paulson (sp?) would be a much better fit in the morning to replace paul alexander as the driving force of the morning show. i think he and colony would make some pretty good songs together.

Thanks for the 93.7 tip. I didn't realize that station existed and happy to see they have Paul Alexander in the morning. Alexander was great on KDKA. I used to pick up KDKA at night through regular radio reception in Florida and Virginia.
Re: Death of Pittsburgh 1250 ESPN
It's great (obviously) that Pittsburgh has such passionate sports fans (and not just for the Steelers).
It's unfortunate that so many companies/broadcasters have tried to appeal to these fans and build an audience, but succeeded only in creating a very fractured marketplace.
I have my own ideas about who the good hosts are but that's not really the issue. Some entity can and should put together a solid lineup. Newspaper columnists doing a side gig does not constitute 'good,' by the way.
We can debate Madden's value and/or approach to radio and his out-of-control ego but the fact is that he can deliver an audience. I don't know if you make him the centerpiece of your station but he represents numbers and therefore advertisers.
We all know that football is king but beyond separating shows by host perhaps they should devote certain hours strictly to certain sports: NFL, college football, hockey, etc.
Surrendering to the forces of national programmers such as ESPN simply means that you get more of ESPN's contrived 'debates' (e.g. 'Who will have a better year? T.O. or Chad? Correct answer: WHO GIVES A $%!@!@#$?) and coverage of worn-out topics like the Jets, Yankees/Sox, Notre Dame, etc.
Hopefully the Fan will make some changes, bring in some proven talent and become the go-to station for all things sports.
