8-Men in the Box: Sidelines Chat

Postby clarioncall » Mon Sep 20, 2010 5:43 pm

DD/ (OR BATCH): TIMEOUT! TIMEOUT, Ref! I gotta see this one through. (goes to sideline)

DD: Coach, It's 3rd and 2, maybe 3rd and 3 again for the 20th time today. I see 8 men up there for the 20th time, man -a -mano, ready to plug, dive, scrap and stop what we got!

MT: Yeah, I see it too, Double D. What do you think?

DD: Well, all respect to Mendy but Redzone hit it twice today and we made it. PLUS, you see how he ALWAYS seems to fall forward? That's good stuff.

MT: Bruce, (get that finger outta there), now tell me what you got called.

Bruce Mensa: Well shoot. They've stopped us 14 or 15 times with Mendy and no fullback off right guard. I say, give it to Mendy off left guard. That oughta fool 'em.

MT: I like that thinkin'! (Bruce, you got somethin' hangin' off your nose there, Buddy.) But what about a FB?

IDIOT: OK, but if we go FB, then that means we go for ice cream, don't it?

DD: Wait, Wait. They got 8 guys up there, AGAIN. I can see 'em and I counted 'em, AGAIN! Why not a quickie to Spaeth, all 6'7" of him. If Safety is on his right he goes left or vice-versa. Let's get a 1st here and move the damn chains.

Mr. Mensa: Whoa, whoa, big fella. I call these shots here. That's why I wear a whistler, remember? Nope, book says here, "no matter what you do, run up the gut". PLUS, with no Fullback in MY offense, it's even more fun. (Anybody gotta hanky?)

MT: Yeah, what he say, what he say!

DD: OK then, why not FAKE a dive and I roll right and hit Hines or Miller or someone in the flat towards the sidelines?

MT: Well, now, DD. Be careful. Can't be havin' you with some input and takin' chances out there. Field goals are points too.
(Bruce, NOW where do you got your thumb?)

The Bloodclot: Hells-bells, lookie here. I got sumthin' all over my hand again.

REF: Times up, P-burgh. Line-up and get rollin'

That foloks, is why we damn near lost that game. When Kery came in, I told all who would listen, "we ain't out of this". This man can still pass and we will be sitting down on D. 2-TDs and we're in OT. Thank God they blew their TO's.
Thank God for the D but THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THIS POSITION. TO PLAY LIKE THAT AND HAVE TO PLAY LIKE THAT FOR 60-MINS BECAUSE OUR COACHING STAFF CAN'T MOVE THE %$^& CHAINS IS A CRIME.

ANYONE disagree? Yes, they get paid for playing too. Buit 7 turnovers and we don't wear them out. Why the ___k even practice? Holy Cow, more speed (Brown, Wallace, Sanders) with Hines in clutch and a line that looks like the Fort Pitt Tubes, big openings, for rushers and we can't slow them down with screens, outs, and quick hitters. PUH-freakin' -lease.

ARIANS MUST GO AND THE CLOCK IS RUNNING ON MT.

It wasn't just 8 men in the box, where they bring a safety down. They were playing 4 DL and FOUR LINEBACKERS!!!!! They were basically saying, "We know you can't throw the ball, so we are going to make sure you can't run either." Yet, time and time again, the BloodClot plunged headlong into the teeth of the defense. No misdirection, no spread formations to create mismatches, no creativity whatsoever.

We ran EXACTLY 1 toss sweep the entire day, it was good for 6 yards. I was screaming at the top of my lungs, "OMG, we ran a F*cking sweep!" Instead of plunging mindlessly into the giant Cluster F*ck of humanity in the middle, we set the edge and got Mendy to the outside with blockers.

Yes, we got the win and it is GREAT to be 2-0.... but there are some GLARING weaknesses that MUST be addressed.

you guys are idiots, obviously less qualified to coach in the nfl than hmmmm, perhaps the ACTUAL coaches. never fails to hear bitching and complaining about being 2-0 with a 4th STRING QB. So when it's 3rd and short and we throw incomplete with a cold qb who is 30 some years old you guys would be bitching about throwing so much on 3rd down. Or god forbid we do run the ball it's not the play you would of called. yeah we get it, you guys don't like bruce arians, everyone who is jumping on every playcall to say i told you so needs to stfu and just root for our team, because no matter how much bitching and instances you can conjure up to support your prerogative, it will amount to JACK SHIT. You whining online is not going to make a difference at all. So stop already, yes he's no offensive genius, but he doesn't have to be to win football games with a defense like ours. It's grind the ball, LIMIT TURNOVERS (running on 3rd instead of throwing with cold QB) and let the defense win the game. You guys buy into the whiny bitching attitude that a certain mod on here perpetuates, nothing but a bunch of blind sheep following a whiny never good enough egomaniac.

Sorry, SGS. Not the point. The "D" cannot continue to play like that forever. The offense knows where they are going, the "D's" don't - their mentality is all react and "catch-up". Too much continual pressure for a D to have to react constantly. That is why Offenses don't seem to tire out like D's. Much more emotional and mental stresses on D's.

The reason (of which MANY can be cited here) that Arians is such a focal point for anger is that our "D" continually puts his "O" in great positions yet he can't use the surplus of talent he has at his disposal, regardless of level of QB he has to use.
Come on, man. 7+ turonvers and their D is fresher than ours? You kidding me? He refuses to adjust and go for 1st downs. His conversion rate on 3rd down is truly offensive. 8-men in the box and he STILL forces running the ball? No audible options to counter this Opponent game plan? Please.

He is happy to win by FG's. You saw how close they came to wining in 4th in a game they were "taken out" by half time. Yet, the ineptness oif his play calling and planning, kept Titans ever close. Did you see Johnson break one only to luckily have it called back? His run should have been meaningless by then. We had the turnovers and field position multiple times already. This idiot did nothing with them. Mendy left, Mendy right, pass and punt.

Your missing the point. We didn't have a game plan for a cold 4th string QB who had next to ZERO reps all summer with the first team. To try and force 1st downs by taking chances could of resulted in turnovers or just as likely a pick six and we would of LOST. Happy to win by field goals? Hell yes, a win is a win. You really think when Ben comes back we are going to have the same offensive game plan? I think tomlin was more concerned about the offense losing the game with all the injuries on the line and uncertainty @ QB than his fully healthy DOMINANT D.

He also used mendy right in overtime in week one and hit a walk off TD. With a RB who can go the distance and a defense that can shut down any given offense i think he made the right call

Right now the D is rallying this team and putting it all on their shoulders. And they've not only put it upon themselves to do so but are actually going out there and doing it. Taking chances and giving up turnovers shows that the O doesn't really have faith in them and sends the wrong signal. If you listened to any of the on field sounds from the game, aaron smith constantly gets the D pumped up, reassuring the offense not to worry, they got their back. This defense, when healthy, is fully capable of carrying this team. Sure not the whole season if injuries take their toll, but at least until ben comes back...definitely. Why take a chance and risk losing by calling plays as if your pro bowl QB was still under center, your starting left tackle was playing, and it's not 90 some degrees on the field forcing your line to rotate leading to even more inconsistency? The coaches take everything under consideration, even if you don't. Thinking charlie batch can come in cold and audible like he's peyton f'n manning with a makeshift line is retarded!
