No doubt the Stillers got off to a good (albeit lucky) start yesterday - good thing the Atlanta offense led by the Neanderthal playcalling of Mularkey, played not to lose instead of win.

Last yr I lost count of the myriad of dropped INT's by our D & will keep track of it this yr - so far, Billy Gay has one.

It's funny that you mention this, because I went on a long angry rant during the game after Ike's drop, and Gay's drop of the ball that bounced off his chest.



I've lost count to the amount of times i've seen Ike taylor do the "i'm angry because that INT slipped right through my hands" frustration gallop.


Gay did a good job of doing that same dance after his dropped INT. I think Polamalu is the only DB who knows how to catch a ball.


Ike is by far, the kind of dropped INTs.

I always think "what if Ike just caught one half of the INTs he's dropped". He'd have much higher numbers.



I'm not too sure, but I think our starting CBs rank amongst the lowest for yearly career INTs....they have to be.

What? Do you realize that he had the second highest completion percentage against him among all starting CB's in the league last year? He was also near the top in throws against and catches allowed, so the BS "well they never throw against him because his coverage is so good" doesn't fit either. He had a whopping 14 pass defenses in 16 games, which places him at #42 in the league.

The stats Incurus placed here tell more of the tale. The biggest problem however is the pass rush - I think Ike benefitted from the pass rush for many years. That pass rush slowed down last year and wasn't a return to old form last Sunday.

The REAL problem is that we draft fantastic bump-n-run, press coverage corners from college and then make them play this Pussified 12 yard cushion coverage. Is it any wonder that our pass rush never gets there anymore? Every QB in the league knows that an 8 yard out route is money in the bank against us. I was amazed that it has taken Dick 5 years to finally have someone jump one of those routes. Go back and watch the tapes from last season. Derrick Mason caught about 30 of those in front of Ike last year. If you REALLY want to see blitzes work, mix in some press coverage once and a while to break up the timing on those patterns. Make the QB hold the ball an extra second or look to another receiver.

When any Bruce Gradkowski can take a 3 step drop and hit the 8 yard out pattern with perfect timing, the pass rush has ZERO chance unless someone comes free.

I saw some stat from someone who calculated that Ike Taylor went almost 26 gms between INT's. The guy went further & calculated the number of passes that were actually thrown at his direction during that time period & it was close to 225 passes. That meant that Ike had one INT during that time period, which means his INT percentage was less than .5% during that time period!!!

Lebeau ALWAYS gives up the 7-8 yd pass. He figures it will then take 12-14 plays to score, rather than 8-9. He believes the chances of the offense making a mistake will increase that way. Problem is, the defense is aging & they are losing time of possession!!!

They have been among the leaders in TOP for the past several years- even last year they were third in TOP.

Last year was a case of no Troy and no Aaron, and no depth behind them...period.

I didn't see any dropped INT's in Nashville - Woodley & BMac actually corralled the ball.

So far, Ike & Billy Gay have one each thru 2 gms.

i'd call woodley's a deflection. can't expect anyone on our D other than troy to make a 1-handed grab. Hell for a WR that would have been a hard catch. Ike's though, that ball was practically gift wrapped and he still didnt make the catch.

at first i thought ziggy dropped one too, but on the replay it showed freeman bat it away
