The game where most of the questions are supposed to be answered just left us with even more questions.

-That was probably the worst display at QB that I've seen since Tommy Maddox. DD had his chance to become the starter and now he's lucky to be ahead of Batch on the depth chart. I really don't want to see these 'special packages' during the regular season. My guess is Arians has him standing still and throwing in the pocket.

-Leftwich was equally as embarrassing. It looked like he was offended to be on the field in the 2nd half. Not only does he have a slow delivery, he has a slow 3 step drop and a slow handoff. I don't think I've ever seen a slower QB playing in the NFL. I found it interesting that he was yanked so quickly. I guess Tomlin figured Hartwig was going to injure his week 1 starter.

-Speaking of that bum, good ol' JC just bought his plane ticket out of Pittsburgh. Saves us $2 million to spend elsewhere.

-Brown really doesn't know what he's doing back there on kickoffs. He looks great as a receiver but I think his inability to make good decisions returning makes us keep Logan at someone else's expense.

-Summers is wretched. I don't know why Tomlin refuses to get him off the field. Is it because he's the only FB not listed as a TE? He doesn't block and is just another fat body that our RBs have to run around.

-Lewis is doing his best imitation of William Gay last season. He might actually be worse.I spit my diet coke out at his tackle attempt when Denver's receiver caught the ball in front of him.

-Where's Ziggy Hood? With all of this hype around him I really don't see anything positive when he's on the field. I guess he saves his best for training camp?

-Worilds=Alonzo Jackson. Thaddeus was decent.

-Emmanuel Sanders ran that same comeback route twice. We all saw the pick 6 but the first time was almost the same result. Why have a shifty, quick, speed guy run a route like that?

-Pouncey had another solid outing and was really the only standout on offense

-Dwyer had a slow run but put picked it up late in the game. However, I don't think he makes the final 53. He particularly didn't wow me with his speed or shiftiness. He just looks like a smaller, chubbier version of Redman.

I was pretty dissappointed by Dixon's play. This was also the first time he was up against a solid defense.


It also reminded me of how shoddy the support system is around the QB.


I mean come on, how good is Rashard really going to be in this league. We've all seen enough from him and he's probably going to be mediocre at best.


At reciever, losing Santonio will really bite them in the ass. Now you're recieving core depends on Hines (whose getting up in age) and the sophomore Wallace, who will be good, but still can't rely everything on projections.



And of course, the offensive line is absolutely atrocious (except for Pouncey). It's like each of the starters take turns getting humiliated and beat. Kemoatu continues to get beat easily on the inside. Trai Essex is and has most likely been the WORST of the linemen, as he consistently misses blocking assignments.


And I've lost count to the number of times I've seen Max Starks and Flozelle get beat on the outside. What a terrible free agent signing...

Yes, lets improve our offensive line by adding a guy WAY past his prime, move him to a new position, and have him continue to lead the league in false starts.





It makes me remember two seasons ago after we drafted Mendenhall and Sweed, people were asking Tomlin how he'd improve on protecting the QB.

"Theres other ways of protecting the QB" he said, with a smirk.





Gawd I hate to say this, but the way things are looking, especially with the shit-horrible play calling of Arians (the run-run-pass robot), along with the horrible condition of our O line, the collapsing defense, and a pretty hard schedule to boot...AND Ben's suspension...


I have a hard time believing we'll make the playoffs this year.

QB - In a way I'm finally glad to see Dixon exposed for the marginal at best QB that he is. If Jim Miller could run, he would be Dennis Dixon. It's looking kinda bleak out of the gate for sure, but I'd rather have Leftwich starting with Batch coming off the bench. I look forward to seeing what the "Cut Ben start Dixon" crowd thinks now.

RB - Mendenhall's legit but since we can't run a balanced offense he'll have to fight for every yard he gets with limited options. I do think we have some solid depth at the position though.

FB - The mighty Arians doesn't use one.

WR - Ward and Wallace starting is a good thing. Wallace appears to be stepping up to the challenge, and everyone who thought Holmes was a god will shut up. Sanders shows promise and Randle El gives us stability. Not a bad group.

OL - Flozell isn't a worldbeater but evidently some aren't watching the same game. Sure he got a false start, and yeah he got tooled a couple times but he showed he's smart enough to play the position. Willie was just stupid and easily befuddled. Essex probably wouldn't even make half the rosters in the NFL let alone start. Kemo is decent but did show he can get beat when trying to clear out the trenches. Starks is adequate. Then again so is oatmeal with no sugar if you don't want to starve. Pouncey's already our best offensive lineman. I think we're seeing the emergence of Pittsburgh's next warrior center.

Special Teams - Same shit different year.

DL - Considering the 32nd pick is just an early 2nd rounder I won't be too hard on Ziggy but damn our starting 3 is ancient. Somebody's gonna get hurt and I'm not so sure Hood can step in for weeks at a time and shoulder the burden. Would it kill the front office to bring in a free agent that could start at least in the short term?!

ILB - At the most Farrior should be used to rotate in to give a starter a breather. He's been washed up. Foote is Rudy. Timmons is the best ILB we have, and platooning Fox and Foote wouldn't be a bad idea.

OLB - Woodley needs to learn to make things happen when big plays don't automatically present themselves. I can see why the FO didn't want to give him his first big contract now. Hopefully he'll earn it this year. Harrison is consistent. The jury's still out on Worilds. I'm not writing him off because he didn't suddenly become a composite of Greg Lloyd, Jack Ham, and Porter in his prime out of the gate.

Safeties - Clark's punishing blindside hits only instill fear when there's Troy P to worry about. Troy goes down again we're fucked.

CB - Ike's no worldbeater but he's the only true starter out of the lot. As mentioned in the game thread by some, the rest are nickelbacks who are marginal.

Overall, our depth on defense is pretty bad.

Best case scenario is 11-5, division champions. Worst case? 10 or more losses. Realistically I think we win 8-10 games and pray for a wildcard.

OMG!!! I said the EXACT same thing to my wife. What a friggin R-tard. Anyway, Blame Arians again... since we OBVIOUSLY never practice a Jump ball in the EZ, nor do our QBs throw to the back shoulder. That would be too unfair to the opposing defense for Dumb Fuck Arians to call.

How is it that every kicker on Denver's roster can kick the ball out of the back of the EZ, but our 2 weak-legged women can't get it to the 10?

Which of the following weaknesses will prove conclusively that Peter King, while generally an outstanding pro football writer, was high as a Georgia Pine when he picked the Steelers to win the Super Bowl:

A) The Glasnost offensive line ("come in, we're open")
B) The Towering Inferno secondary (prepare to get burned)
C) The mediocre special teams (start the pool: when will the first return TD come against the Steelers)
D) The general lack of discpline from Coach Tomlin (that may be unfair because only a few culprits have been responsible for the stupid personal fouls so far)

For what it's worth, I would cast my vote for Dixon to start at QB - whoever is back there will have to be mobile.
