Postby thesteelhammer » Thu Aug 12, 2010 9:27 pm

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has not said whether QB Byron Leftwich or QB Ben Roethlisberger will start in the team's preseason game against the Detroit Lions Saturday, Aug. 14. He also hasn't said if Ben will even play.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' starters will only play eight to 12 snaps in the team's preseason game versus the Detroit Lions Saturday, Aug. 14, which is only about two series.

Looks like Byron Leftwich will be the team's starting quarterback to open the season while QB Ben Roethlisberger serves his suspension, according to ESPN.com. QB Dennis Dixon is expected to play most of the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 14, with QB Charlie Batch finishing up.

Pittsburgh Steelers WRs Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown will receive tryouts on kickoffs and punts in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 14, according to ESPN.com.

Pittsburgh Steelers LB Jason Worilds is unlikely to play in the team's 1st preseason game Saturday, after suffering from a sore hamstring, according to ESPN.com.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich is clearly ahead QB Dennis Dixon in the battle to be the team's starting quarterback while QB Ben Roethlisberger serves his suspension, reports Scott Brown, of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Dixon still seems to rely a little too much on his mobility when he is pressured in the pocket. If Dixon is going to close the gap on the competition, he is going to need to show he can be more of a pocket passer during the preseason.

Pittsburgh Steelers OL Maurkice Pouncey will see time at both guard and center Saturday, Aug. 14, against the Detroit Lions, reports Scott Brown, of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He has been running with the second-string at right guard and it has been believed he will eventually take over at center. Pouncey said he believes he is going to start off at center.

Steelers win 1st preseason game in dominate fashion 23-7,
but it was just the Lions.

Starting O-line looks like a problem.
Ben gets ZERO snaps.
Leftwich is not Ben, & neither is Dixon though he did go 6 for 7 with a TD
Some fumble problems.(Mendy & Moore each had 1.)
Redman continues picks up where he left off last preseason and looks like a stud. Lets see if he makes roster this year.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich was only supposed to play up to 12 snaps Saturday, Aug. 14, against the Detroit Lions, reports The Associated Press. Instead, he played midway into the second quarter because head coach Mike Tomlin apparently was not happy with the team's first two series. Leftwich was 6 of 10 passing for 43 yards.

I like Leftwich. He seems like a pretty classy guy, and I think he's the best passer we'll have available for those first 4 games.

Unfortunately, I don't think he has the mobility to play behind our piss-poor pass protection (I'm looking at you Flozell...)

I start Dixon for the first 4 games. He isn't the pure passer that Leftwich is, but he's shown that he's capable enough to get the ball to open receivers. If our pass blocking is anywhere near as bad as it looked Saturday night, we'll need Dixon's scrambing ability to keep our heads above water.
