So what would BR7 be worth?

Postby bigjoespompano » Fri Mar 12, 2010 3:53 am

It appears many here have given up on Ol' Ben so let's follow that path. He's brought us Two lombardi's. That's GOTTA be worth something, right? And if someone with a DECENT OC could get him, he might yet wind up in the hall as they might be able to guide him.
So what do you suppose we could get for him?

The Raiders sure need a decent QB and I bet we could snag several of their first round picks for the next few years. Excellent way to build for the future, right? What other suck-hole team could use a QB of his talent level? There's gotta be someone out there that would be willing to give up the farm to have him.

And we got Dixon, right? He could sure step up and make us forget Ben, I'd bet! Yea, Dennis is the ticket! I smell Lombardi, don't you?? The future is looking awfully bright if we can pull this off, waddya think?

I find it interesting how people on this board, and throughout steeler country, are now condeming him for the first incident. 8 months ago we were all laughing at the emails that were dug up from A. Mcnulty that showed she was lying. Now fans have resorted to comments like two times is a trend or where there is smoke there is fire. How many "I can't take this guy's antics anymore" quotes are on this site alone? If he is guilty of the Georgia incident then I agree - get rid of him.

Now BigJoes start on this thread wasn't a treatise on what I wrote but rather what is he worth in the open market - I am not sure there will be much of one if found guilty. Roeth. would likey have to go the way Vick and be released from the steelers and be out of football for a time. However, if not guilty, there is no reason to get rid of him. If not guilty his antics are acting like a 28yr old with a lot of money. When did the steelers fan base get so holier than thou. Certainly no members of the holy clergy on this site. Read all of the discriminatory and defaming comments on just about any thread.

In any event, the Rooney's are great at creating double standards. Look at the handling of Cedrick Wilson vs. James Harrison. If not found guilty, they are not getting rid of a franchcise QB because it doesn't make business sense.

As illogical as it sounds, all reports are that Al Davis wants to stick it out with Jamarcus Russell, at least for the short term. If it were any other owner/GM, I'd attribute that to the normal lip-service given to their current players. But I truly believe that Al Davis wants to keep with Russell to prove everyone he was right in drafting him.

There was a rumor floating around that the Redskins were attempting to put out feelers for him. True or not, I do see it as the most logical fit. I know some other teams need QBs as well, but I think Shanahan would love to have a player of Ben's caliber, and we know Snyder wouldn't mind taking a gamble on him.

Ultimately, I'd prefer this lawsuit get thrown out and he stick in Pittsburgh, of course.

I'm going to compare this to a free agent situation in reverse. I know. It doesn't make sense, but follow me. With some one like in the Plax case a few years back you want him to have a good year, but if he does you can't afford him. This is sort of like that in reverse. If Ben is guilty or with this hanging over him his value is low, but let the authorities find that there's no real evidence or reason to proceed, then you've got the QB that you can win the SB with. Would you really want to trade him? I think you have to ride it out and see how this plays out. If he's a rapist I have no sympathy, but I'm not ready to condem him, except for his judgment.

BR 7 is worth zip if indicted. The Steelers will have to release him like Atlanta did with Vick and then if he ever gets out of jail before he is forty, then he is a free agent for some team to take a chance like Philly did. Georgia is not California where celebrities get acquitted and the system is so overloaded that you are liable to get probation for a first offense because the jails are so full. A sex crime in Georgia is gonna put your ass away for a long time. Very complicated situation with a lot of public relations, legal, contractual issues. He is talented but what a fucking drama queen he has been. He has to be the biggest pain in the ass to the organization of anyone I can remember.
