Big snack signed for 3 yrs
http://kdka.com/steelers/Casey.Hampton. ... 19203.html
A source says nose tackle Casey Hampton has agreed to a three year, $21 million contract to stay with the team – with $11 million of the contract guaranteed.
Today is the deadline for the Steelers to use either of their franchise or transition tags.
Safety Ryan Clark and kicker Jeff Reed are still unsigned

Skippy's been franchised.

I'm not sure how much Casey has left in him.All this does is buy some time until they can find his long term replacement. From what I've read the only nose tackles who you would consider in the first round is Williams of Tennessee or Cody of Alabama. If they are gone then look at a CB or an ILB to groom behind Farrior.

The money involved in today's NFL contracts always seems a little crazyto me, but I like the signing of Hampton for 3 years.
The stats might not show it, but the guy does his job.
Ed Bouchette and Gerry Dulac, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, report Pittsburgh Steelers DT Casey Hampton received a $6.5 million signing bonus as part of his new three-year deal.

I also like the signing. Although this board is divided probably 50/50 on whether he is a fat ass or a run stuffer. I vote for run stuffer. He probably won't play 3 more years or at least start over that time but this leads to an important topic that the steelers need to start hitting on their second and third round draft picks. We are developing too many pressing needs to keep relying on first rounders to fill voids.
Steelers should be drafting a new NT within the next two years, but also need at least one killer pick on the o-line during that time....and a DB. Throw in an inside backer and I see serious problems without banging out good 2nd & 3rds. Oh brother.

We're fucked. I think the 3 years is way too long a contract to have committed to. The incompetence of the front office is becoming increasingly evident with each passing season...

This is a slam dunk great signing. Only this site questions it at all. I love descent, but there is no way to argue this is anything but a good decision by the front office, even if you think he isn't even a very good nose tackle. It is essentially a better deal for the Steelers than if they had franchised him, as long as he plays through the second year. They are now free to focus on safety, even if they re-sign Clark, or cornerback, inside linebaker (S. Weatherspoon) or BOP, possibly OT (T. Williams, B. Buluga)or OG (Iupati) . My personal dream is for Rolando McClain or Eric Berry to fall far enough that they can move up (like they did for Polamalu and Holmes) to grab him without paying a ransom (in other words, a 2nd round pick. Prediction: Earl Thomas. Gut prediction: Sean Weatherspoon

This is a very stacked draft, I think we will do very well with picking up good fits in the later rounds this year vs. last year when the draft was very thin at certain positions of need.
I'm very excited to see who they draft this year, it's almost never who the pundits pick...which seems to be every year some O lineman. Mendy was one of those talents who fell to us that we grabbed and everyone questioned why. Timmons...in the proper position and role will be just as valuable. I would love to see a young guy who can lead take over for farrior and allow timmons to be the beast he's shown flashes he can be.
