I always thought that the name Carson Palmer had a certain ring to it like Little Lord Fontleroy.

Always a pleasure reading your stuff, PS. Personally, I think Carson Cornhole should adopt the nickname "Pick Six."
Riff Raff brings up a great point. Who are the bigger playoff chokers? The Bungles or the Chargers (or perhaps Chokers).

I love your articles about Carson Palmer. You always bring facts to back up your assertions. Good stuff.
p.s. I was watching NFLN last weekend (I think it was Game Day Final) and they had an early print of a Cincy paper and on the cover was a headline that read something to the effect of 'Time to address Palmer's issues'. So it seems like some of these things are starting to come up over there.

No Bengals fans, it’s not the arm that’s the problem here, it’s the throat.
This is the only point in the artcile that I don't entirely agree with.... it's the arm AND the throat .....
Hard to throw a TD with your hand clutching your throat

I have no idea what your beef is with C. Palmer, but you obviously have an unhealthy hatred of him, as exhibited by your screen name.
This past season, it was apparent that something was wrong with Palmer, as his arm strength was lacking. He probably hasn't fully recovered from his injury and quite possibly never will.
In any event, I hope he doesn't get his arm strength back, since they won the division without him being effective.
As for that playoff game...Unlike you, I'm not so sure we would have won if he hadn't been injured. For one thing, on the play he got hurt, he completed a pass for a huge gain. The recently deceased C. Henry also got injured early on in that game. He's the one who caught the long pass from Palmer.

You did read the whole post right? PS addressed this line of thought...
You asked with your eyes Trent, you asked with your eyes.

If by saying that it didn't prove that Cincy would win the game, I suppose he addressed it. I simply maintain that Cincy would have been in a better position to win had Palmer not gotten injured and that it's far from a given that our favorite team would have prevailed.

Palmer, Rivers, McNabb, Cutler.
All above-average quarterbacks who will never win a super bowl.
Even Romo has a better shot at winning one.

I live out here in SoCal and this conversation comes up every now and then because of the multitude of Palmer ballwashers around here.
I take pretty much the same approach you do. I won't go so far as to say 'the Steelers definitely would've won even if Palmer hadn't been hurt', but I'm not going to make that leap and say the Bengals probably would've won if he hadn't.
PalmerSucks does seem to have an unhealthy hatred of Palmer. But having said that, when he talks his shit, the dude usually brings the wood (like the article he wrote earlier in the season where he correlated Palmer's stats to the Bengals' rushing stats). PalmerSucks is definitely a world class hater, but he makes his arguments pretty compelling with the research he does on the stats.

Re: New Article: The Palmer Playoff Myth Destroyed Forever
IIRC, The Bungles took a 17-7 lead with Jon Kitna in that game, then promptly did what they always do; Choked it away. I find Bungles players and their fans to be some of the most delusional people in The NFL. You should've been on The NFL.com boards this past season. Bragging about them sweeping The Steelers and winning The Division. LOL. You can tell which teams and their fans aren't used to winning. I've lost count how many times The Steelers won a Division Title over The past 15 + years,(As well as swept The Bungles in a season.), to the point that I don't consider either of those feats to be an accomplishment anymore. My response to The Bungle faithful? Why don't you win The Division Title every year, or even every other year like The Steelers have before you start acting like The Elite Of The NFL? Better yet, how about actually trying to WIN 1 PLAYOFF GAME IN 20 FUCKING YEARS?!? Very sad, considering how parity filled The NFL is/has been. But I'm sure Chad Ochoasshole and the rest of his merry band of nimrods will give us 1,000 excuses as to why.

On the contrary, I can assure you it's quite healthy.

You sure you're not in reality "JimCincy1"? You sound just like the Bungals fans who bend so far over backwards making excuses for him.
In any case, I covered this gag reflex several years ago in a little piece called "It's Choke Time at the Apollo." You might want to take a read:
http://www.stillers.com/articles/2145.aspx
Covers pretty much the hot/early cold/late pattern and why the Bungals WEREN'T going to win that game if Palmer had finished. Bottom line: the first-quarter bomb was EXACTLY how the choker rolls, and meant nothing to the outcome.
Enjoy!
Regards,
PS

Nice try, mate, but I made no excuses for Palmer. I simply pointed out that your conjecture that the Bengals definitely would still have lost if Palmer hadn't gotten hurt is just that...pure conjecture. There's no way to prove it one way or the other.
As it turns out, he got hurt & we won, so I'm glad he got hurt and missed most of the game.

Re: New Article: The Palmer Playoff Myth Destroyed Forever
Great post. All but one of the replies omitted the most glaring reason for debunking this myth: Jon Kitna performed as well or better than Palmer would have and their defense totally blew the game.
