I don't know if I agree that the OL is to blame here.
Mendy averaged almost 5ypc and Ben threw for over 4,000yds. I don't see how anyone can say the OL is under-performing.

Agree - if anything, the Stillers need to find a stud fullback who can run block, catch, & pass block. I was relatively ok with the O line play and I'm a big believer in chemistry and communication. A couple years ago the Giants O-line was dominant because they kept the same group together for several years. Ben holding the ball, bone-headed formations, and a lack of a quality fullback has made this group seem much worse than they actually are. However, Colon may be the weak link of the group and I would not argue if we could upgrade his spot.
Re: Zierlein fired
Have not been a fan of the OL for sometime and I will say they have improved. The Ol is a big part of the sack problem. They do not hold their blocks, yea yea Ben does get happy feet from time to time and holds the pig to many times to long. They account for a lot of Penalties Colon in particular.
FB stud would be a huge improvment but I Don't think BA knows how to use one. Better yet better PLAY CALLING at the right time, that is not luck it smarts BA does not have game smarts. These records speak for the players we have, not the game plan.
The OL still needs to win the trench war. They lost more than won this year. RZ problems say a lot on them for this we lost there huge.

I agree to a certain extent, but a certain element of suprise is helpful too. When we roll with empty-backfield sets half of the time it makes it much harder on the OL.

Re: Zierlein fired
OL much improved this year with continuity over past 2 or 3 yrs. They cannot be blamed for all the ills though I am tired of Colon looking around after a play is over wondering what the ^&%$ just happened.
Ben, or Ben's coaching, is hugely responsible for alot of the criticism, deservedly so. Get rid of the damn thing or move out and create something like you used to do. Now, he's just a statue back there.
Maybe, JUST FREAKING "MAYBE", broadcasting our running plays and then sending Mendy, Parker, et al, up the damn middle where half the East Coast is waiting for them, might be reason to, oh,... I don't know, audible out to a quick slant or quick pitch. Maybe confusing a "D" now and then, maybe working on an opposing D's weakness, these might work. Keep a D from stacking the box. Jimmy Johnson said it best about NE's Welker. It just plain opens up the run. Not us. We see 8 defenders over center and that is a piece of red meat for us to attack - with a RB 8 yds deep and NO lead blocker. "Here ya go, Mendy! Go get 'em boy! See what you can do with those big fellas in the other jerseys who are standin' there just a waitin' for ya!"
Geez, it worked AGAINST us from other teams' "O's". With Troy out, our safeties were exposed. I believe we gave up more than just a few crucial big ones. With Farrior, now slower than concrete in January in Maine, they found "ways" to exploit his diminshing skills.
I go to the 2 TD's in Packer game where we threw right off the wing and off they went to EZ behind Hines and Miller blocks. (1 called back for Miller ? hold). This is the type of conversion stuff we never see at 3rd & 4, 2nd and 2 in field of play. All we see are rainbows arching out 60 yds at a pop. Plus, Ben just plain holds on too long and it HAS TO FREAKING STOP! Roll-outs, moving pockets, etc. can end this sack-happy crap but OC too damn ignorant or stubborn. "No FB in MY offense.", says he of little value. And Danny Kreider was just a guy to use a roster spot. Miss him? I sure do. MT NEEDS to address this with Arians.
Sickens me to have another year ahead of this crap to write about.

With you.
Maybe (and this is a big fucking maybe) Arians will run the ball more this next year. I think that could help a lot of our ills. They don't even have to be all that creative. Mendy has proven that he can make things happen. Watching that guy pick up 5 yards all the time kinda reminded me of Bettis. Different style, obviously, but that consistent production helps your passing game so much.

Re: Zierlein fired
Works BOTH ways. A passing game that moves the chains (ala Welker) opens up the run as well.
We are: up the middle, off tackle, throw a pass for 60, punt. (Unless we get can complete it.)
Unless we score from 40 yds out, we can't punch it in it seems. RZ offense atrocious as not many options are available when backfield is empty. Plays take too long to develop when not many checkdowns are available and space is tight.
We could go on and on about this but if no FB in offense next year, expect more of the same crap.
Saw how effective Brady is w/out Welker. Always felt that way. He is mediocre if they can't run and have no one to move the chains. WATCH OUT AND DO NOT WRITE THEM OFF: They have 4 picks in 1st 2 rounds this draft and a slew of picks in next several drafts. They will NOT be going away. They have been stockpiling draft picks for the next 3-4 years. They may even trade one of these 4 picks coming up for "future considerations". Look it up, they have been pretty skillful at collecting these picks.

Re: Zierlein fired
Speaking of formations, spreading the offense and that idiot Arians!
We had a very successful play (1 play mind you - never to be tried again!) back around midseason, where Logan lined up at left WR with Wallace next to him in the slot. You could see the cornerback yelling to teammates for help because he didn't know what to do. Completely baffled the defense.
When the ball was hiked, Logan turned and looked at Ben but never left the line of scrimmage. The cornerback, worrying about Logan, was frozen and basically taken out of the play. Wallace zipped right past him and ended up with the catch down the left sideline for about a 40 yd gain!
What a great play but never to be seen again the rest of the season! This play could be run 4-5 different times a game with slight variances in the route and Wallace winning out just due to his speed. But noooooooo! Not from Airhead Arians.
Like everyone else has said, it's a shame but I doubt if we see any improvement next year.

Re: Zierlein fired
I loved the 2 td's we scored in Packers game that were just quick tosses to MeMo in wing. He ran straight in from about 10 yds out behind Hines and Miller blocks. 1 was called back on ticky-tack hold by Miller, BUT, like you, agree we will NEVER see those again. Perfect plays to pick up 3 - yds for 1st down on a 3rd & 2, 3rd & 4. What most of us would call "chain movers" type plays, we'll never see. It is on MT from here on out.
WHY THE &^%$ CAN'T WE LEARN FROM THESE PLAYS AND USE WHAT THE %^&$ WORKS ???
Gosh, that is so aggravating. Arians is ssssooooo infuriating, I wish I'd never hear his name again!
