Game Management

Postby kimo_brah » Wed Jan 06, 2010 2:14 pm

Tomlin and BA 's problem is not run first or pass first. It is game management. When you are up by 14 points in the third and you keep passing the ball 2 of 3 plays stopping the clock you give teams time to come back. Run the ball in the red zone when your team is up a couple scores, keep the clock ticking, and take your points, 7 or 3. Ben tossed red zone interceptions with a lead in too many games. The ball should have been rushed and at minimum you get 3 pts. Oakland doesn't have time to come back and we have more points if some of the passes are runs. Ditto KC. You have to be able to recognize that as a coach. There is a reason Cowher, Parcells, and other didn't lose many games with a lead late. They didn't give other teams time to do it. They still passed . . . just not as much.

To make matters worse, when we can't or don't chew up the clock in the 3rd/4th quarter like we used to and we just give the other team the ball, they are in pass mode in the 4th and decimate our secondary & tired D that has been on the field too much.
