We make the playoffs if
1. we win out
2. Jets lose at Indy next week
Broncos lose at Philly next week
Jags lose at New England next week
Texans lose at Miami next week or at New England week after
3. we have the tie breaker against Denver cause we beat them
we have the tie breaker against Tenn cause we beat them
So, if we beat Balt next weekend and Miami weekend after,
we are the number 6 seed and likely playing at Cincin with a healthy Polamalu in
the wild card weekend.

Re: We make the playoffs if
Question is: will this turn more like the 2005 season or the 2006 season?
In the 06 season, there were entire websites devoted to "stillers make the playoff ... if". Most, of not, of the other games turned out in our favor. Except the Stillers failed to do what they had to do.
In '05, Stillers barely got into the playoffs, also with some outside help.

Re: We make the playoffs if
A miracle they are still alive...
The key here is the Stillers "winning out." Possible....but not likely given their track record this year.
Don't beat your meat too much over the win today. Everyone, including Tomlin, tried to give it to the Pack.

Too fucking much. Well we got another week of interesting debate and reason to draw in air

Re: We make the playoffs if
honestly if we can't play better defense we don't win out. ben had a hell of a game today but if he's gotta pass for 500 yards just to give us a chance, that is not a good thing
Re: We make the playoffs if
No shit.
I mean, think about it .... BR7 passes for over 500 yards and they only won by one point! On the last play of the game no less!!
Are you fricking kidding me? We might not ever see BR7 pass for 500 yards in his entire career again!

Re: We make the playoffs if
IMO game against Baltimore is hugely critical. It appears that most of the other games are going in our favor. In fact, except for CHI-BAL, every game went in our favor.
IF stillers win out the remaining two games, then it sure promises to be an interesting 2 weeks.

a 9-7 finish may not be enough.
If Den & Balt & PS all finish 9-7, Steelers out. (conference record ist tie-breaker with 3 or more teams tied w/ same record, not divisional.)
Denver and/or Balt must loss out.

this steeler-friendly play-off scenario sounds too simplistic.

Re: We make the playoffs if
according to yahoo's playoff scenario generator...
we get in if the following teams win 1 game or less of the remaining 2:
BAL: @PIT, @OAK
DEN: @PHI, KC
JAX: @NE, @CLE
MIA: HOU, PIT
NYJ: @IND, CIN
HOU: @MIA, NE
HOU will never win both...
NYJ probably won't win again...
And assuming we win out, that takes out BAL & MIA.
So...
DEN needs to lose @PHI and
JAX needs to lose @NE.

Re: We make the playoffs if
First off, the Steelers MUST win out to finish 9-7. Assuming we win out, 4 of the following 5 things MUST happen as well:
1) Jaguars lose 1 game
- at New England
- vs Cleveland
- One loss will put the Jaguars at 8-8, where the Steelers will be ahead of them due to a better record. Otherwise if they win out and finish 9-7, they own the tiebreaker over the Steelers.
2) Jets lose 1 game
- at Indianapolis
- vs Cincinatti
- One loss will put the Jets at 8-8, where the Steelers will be ahead of them due to a better record. Otherwise if they win out and finish 9-7, they own the tiebreaker over the Steelers.
3) Ravens lose both games
- at Pittsburgh
- at Oakland
- Both losses will put the Ravens at 8-8, where the Steelers will be ahead of them due to a better record. If they Ravens only lose one and finish 9-7, they will own the tiebreaker against the Steelers for having a better divisonal record.
4) Broncos & Texans both lose 1 game **OR** Broncos lose both games
- Denver at Philadelphia, Houston at Miami
- Denver vs Kansas City, Houston vs New England
- One loss will put the Broncos at 9-7. This will force a 3-way tiebreaker which the Texans will win, unless the Texans lose one game. Alternatively, the Broncos can simply lose out.
5) Texans lose 1 game **OR** Titans win out
- Houston at Miami, Tennessee vs San Diego
- Houston vs New England, Tennessee at Seattle
- Losing one will put the Texans at 8-8. Otherwise if they win out & finish 9-7, they own the tiebreaker over the Steelers unless the Titans win out. If the Titans win out, it forces a 3-way tiebreaker in which the Steelers would win.
As for the rest of the teams in the hunt:
Titans
- The best they can finish is 9-7, even if they win out. We own the tiebreaker over them for beating them this year. They are no threat to our playoff hopes whatsoever. The Titans winning out will really help the Steelers, as it will force a 3-way tierbreaker between the Steelers, Titans, & Texans if all 3 teams win out. In this scenario, the Steelers get in over both teams.
Dolphins
- We play them in Week 17. If we win, the best they can finish is 8-8. They're really out of the playoff picture. It really helps us if they beat the Texans next week, as it eliminates Houston.
1) Jaguars lose 1 game

Incorrect- Denver is out.
In a three-team tie, first thing is to settle division ties first. You've got to keep this in mind.
Pittsburgh is out by virtue of Baltimore's better division record.
Baltimore then takes out Denver for #5 by virtue of having beaten them.
Now, we have Denver and Pittsburgh tied for #6- Pittsburgh gets in by virtue of its win over the Broncos.
Same thing happens if Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Denver, and Tennessee are tied at 9-7 (or if Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Tennesse, Houtson, and Denver are tied at 9-7).
In these two cases, the battle for #6 comes down to Pittsburgh, Denver, and Tennessee (in the latter case, the Titans eliminate the Texans in the "settle division ties first" tiebreaker)- Pittsburgh owns a head-to-head sweep on the Broncos and Titans, and this is the first tiebreaker.
We want one of the above three scenarios to happen.

Pretty much so, but it is not absolutely essential.
Scenarios exist to get the Steelers in even at 8-8 (provided the 8th loss is to Baltimore and not Miami), but they would require KC to beat Denver, Oakland to beat Baltimore, and the Jets, Titans, and Houston to all lose out.
And those are NOT all happening.

Re: We make the playoffs if
Honestly, how many people out there think we're going to beat Baltimore AND Miami if we shit the bed vs the likes of KC, Oakland, & Cleveland??

Because this year, we beat the good teams and lose to the scrubs.
Re: We make the playoffs if
first off: i washed my hands of the season upon losing to Cleveland.
that said: losing to the likes of KC/OAK et al: change one play in each game, Stillers win.
caveat: even with the 'change one play' theory, those games should never EVER have been close.
i digress: during the 5 game slide, we all heard no one had any answers. My take: there was something going on but too sensitive to discuss.

Re: We make the playoffs if
Season was over with losses to the Chiefs, Raiders and Browns. This team cannot win a playoff game even if all the stars align properly and we make it to the wild card. I'm rooting for the highest possible pick in the draft
