If you were the OC...

Postby Lake37 » Sat Nov 28, 2009 5:40 pm

It's easy for us all to sit here and bash Bruce Arians (rightfully so), but here's the real question. If you were the Offensive Coordinator with Dennis Dixon about to make his first start what would your gameplan be?

___________________________________________________________________________

In general, my gameplan would be to get DD on the move as much as possible. He would only be reading one half of the field on any given play and there would always be some sort of checkdown for him to go to immediately. I would tell him at any time he does not feel comfortable to RUN. Plain and simple, let him use the athletic ability he has.

And also, I would put in a package where he lines up in shotgun with Hines next to him since Hines can throw. There would be direct snaps, RB passes (which would be Hines), and at least one form of a double pass.

I'd allow Dixon to run as soon as he feels pressure. I'd also employ alot of slants, and simple routes for him to get the ball out quick. One other thing that will take the pressure off of Dixon would be a healthy dose of Mendenhall. We need to establish the run game first and foremost. The Ravens D isn't quite as stout against the run this year. If we have success running the ball, Dixon should be able to manage the game rather than have to win it himself.
Bruce Arians: Proudly carried the Honor of Short Bus All-Star 2007-2011. Good job, and glad you're gone Dumbfuck!!!!!

Keep in mind, if Dixon gets hurt, we got Tyler Palko taking snaps. Wonder how he would be under center with RayRay lookin' at him across the line of scrimmage?

We haven't been able to establish a run game against the Ravens in years and that's when BR7 was under center

Bruce Ariens would never do what you just stated. You just make to much since. Bruce is going to want Dixion to stay in the pocket, take his sacks like a man, and so on and so on. :(

Lake, we're in the same playbook! Unfortunately that book doesn't have crayons, ergo Bruce can't find it.

Love to see an end around with Tone then double reverse to Hines who hits a sneaking DD down the sideline. They won't think Pgh will risk using his running abilities BECAUSE we will keep him "contained" ourselves. Remember, the back-up is... Ryan Who? They will spend their energies double-covering Hines short routes (always open and clutch) and Miller (same) and DARE DD to throw deep to Wallace and Tone who will probably be man covered as his only release.

We will need alot of counter stuff, quick hit stuff to slow the rush, a HEAVY dose of "out routes" and MeMO and Mendy getting behind rayray and company or...

How about this? - ...

Use Wallace/Holmes like Pats use Welker. Gee, how difficult to figure a few slow, drag patterns over the middle to guys who can run after catch. Everyone knows welker gets the ball on 3rd downs and they still can't find him. I guess Bruce feels it just ain't right to study another teams strengths and incorporate that stuff with the similar weapons we have.

If DD has to run 15 times, we're in for a long night but I just don't think it has to be that way.

If I was Bruce Ariens I'd find a gun and do the Steeler organization a big favor.....
