Happy for the win.

Postby lloydgreene » Tue Oct 06, 2009 12:19 am

As I said, things look a little more hopeful for our season and I expect we have begun what should be a nice win streak that puts us back on top.

However, I am more than disappointed at our lack of discipline and focus in the second half. We came out of the gate fast, determined, EFFICIENT on both sides of the ball. Ben threw the ball quickly and our O-line really opened up some holes for the struggling Mendy. Our script was executed almost to perfection to a quick 14-0 lead and a 21-0 lead at the half.

After the first two drives, I noticed Big Ben was freelancing a bit more and not as decisive. WHile he made plays, that always makes me a bit nervous. We seemed to lose discipline on defense and completely lost it on special teams in the second half.

As we are currently looking up at two teams in our division, we don't have room to let up in ANY second halves of games. While I am super glad that we played well enough to win, close games like this will bite us hard when we can least afford it.

Good News: we won, we found a run game (especially in 4th qtr), 2-2 in the first quarter of the season is not a death sentence for the playoffs- we still hold our fate in our own hands.

Bad News: Defense tried to give up another lead- problem doesn't seem to be fixed. Special teams have not been the boost we all thought they would be, and Arians is still employed.

These closer than they should be games are too much to handle, but if we come out on the winning side I'll take them all year.

we found a way to win, and in the grand scheme of things that's the most important thing. some positives and some negatives, but if it ends in a W, i'll take it, even if it's a 1 point win over the chiefs or lions haha.

pros:
total domination for 3 quarters, 28-0 lead over a good san diego team is still impressive
we had that killer instinct even after we were up 21-0. first time i've seen that all year
offensive playcalling attacked the weakness of the defense instead of simply just trying to 'impose our will'
we're finally throwing to the TE
mendenhall finally shows playmaking ability
jeff reed probably has his confidence back after that 46 yarder which put the game out of reach
hines ward running over that DB, need i say more?
offensive line finally seems to be working together as a unit. 3 sacks given up were all ben's fault IMO

negatives:
we need to be the 60 minute men again, not the 45 minute men - IF we can fix this we have a championship team once again
special teams needs to stop being special (as in riding the short bus)
lamarr woodley.. who? i don't think i've heard his number called the entire year. biggest disappointment of this year so far. he's looked slow all year, is it the ankle injury or was he just being lazy in the offseason?

it all boils down to mostly we need to play for 60 minutes. in all the games this season we have dominated our opponents but just found a way to lose in games 2 and 3 because the team just gave up in the 4th quarter. if they can play for the full 60 nobody will stop them this year.. though the saints have me a little concerned.

So far, we're 2-2 in such games.

8-8 won't win a division or get into the playoffs.

No, you are absolutely right. 10-6 is not even a guarantee with the murderers... I mean Ravens in our division.

I just have faith that we are still a championship caliber team that has had a rough start. If we had suffered a 2-2 stretch in the middle of the season I don't think it would have seemed as dire as it has. I have stated that I expect us to put on a SOLID win streak here in the middle part of the season that puts us back to the "Defending Super Bowl Champions" status that we deserve.

I may be wrong, and I have been attacked pretty viciously for my opinions, but I call them like I see them.

No, what you are is a word wending weasel. You would not admit to a problem with our defense till we slapped you silly and now you are trying to spin it into your position. You are trying to have it both ways so that your ridiculous BS from last week is forgotten. Last week you were all rose garden and could not take our criticism of the defense and ST. Now that you see where we all stand you are trying to adopt said same observations as your own. You are a blowjob

I have been critical of our play. I did NOT call us out of the hunt after 3 games like some folks on this board. Of course we played like crap. I just simply expressed my opinion that the end-of-the-world predictions were not called for. And I expressed my opinion that we would be RIGHT where we are today. 2-2 behind a 3-1 Ravens with much football left to play.

Again, you show your class by calling me names. And I was correct. You are not happy when we lose, but you seem equally upset if we dont win the way you want us to win.

I am done with you. I want to talk football, not exchange insults with you.

So of you choose to wallow in misery instead of being happy we played well enough to win (special teams cost us 14 points and we won by 10) even though we had to overcome some extremely bad play. PGHEAVEN, let it go. Our feud is over.

Its over all right asshole
