Wow, now I am depressed....
Re: New Article: Loose Slag from The Still Mill
It is a hard team to figure out. Last year, they won the Super Bowl but had that abomination in Philly, the home loss to the Giants, the close (gift) win at home versus Dallas, the two ugly slugfest wins versus the Ravens, the awful win at home versus the Chargers, and other uneven performances wherein losses occurred or close wins happened. The year before was similar with the ugly loss at Denver, etc.
The philosophy seems to be a little bit of Dungy with Tampa where we play to the defense, once we get a TD advantage we try to be conservative, and otherwise we look to have the defense shut them down or Ben win it at the end. The problems come when the D is not of shut down quality and/or Ben is not given a chance. Both happened in Chi-Town.
The Bengals game will be no easier. Hopefully, this team can make some plays.
And on personnel, it has been obvious for two years that Carter cannot play and TP43 gets hurt every year. The other lack of depth is at QB where Ben has trouble staying healthy but Batch is putrid.
Hopefully, we will win a bunch of close ones again like last year. Every game will be tough.

Close games seem to be becoming the norm in the nfl. That's what keeps viewers glued to the tv so that the commercials get looked at. That's what the nfl and the networks want. Pro football as we know it may be gone and we're getting treated to more and more WWE type stuff.

Yeah, yeah I hear u on the D and lack of adjustment against the short passing game. Still they only gave up 17 points and 10 last week. This one slipped threw his fingers for a TD and it wasnt tipped! The guy just had has arm up. His tipped comment is troubling (even if it was tipped, which it wasnt). Were still the worst at putting teams away. We start of the game, quickly march down the field and score. Ok, sit back relax and watch-em beat em down and run up the score. Instead its like we realize after the first score "oh this gonna be easy" and take our foot of the gas, cant wait till the games over so we can roast marshmellows. Get up by +17 or so and then u can fitz around establishing the running game and being more balanced. Put em away!

It was a shitty game.
One step forward two steps back.
Don't expect that trend to continue.

What in the hell happened to Ike Taylor??
Internal sources have pointed out to me, he had an emotional relationship with mcfadden and is crushed by the fact that he went to Arizona... So the lack of play is because he wants the transfer to the fagginals...
The play that really irked me was the INT he didn't even try to catch, he could've easily dived to catch that ball! Hopefully we see some more playmakers appear in future games 'cause right now there's no one I can congratulate on that team, at least on defense.

I thought the same thing. Ike needs to step up and play like he gives a shit. The lack of effort at the ball that bounced at his feet was disturbing. He better get his shit together soon or we're going to need to start looking at some other options.

The play that really irked me was the PASS he didn't even try to catch for an INT, he could've easily dived or even just knelt down to catch that ball! Hopefully we see some more playmakers appear in future games 'cause right now there's no one I can congratulate on that team, at least on defense.

From watching Ike the last few years, he seems to be one of those guys who plays to the level of the competition and maybe has some ADHD. So, if he is tasked with covering Ochocinco, he is focused and plays like an all-pro (I hope this is true this coming Sunday). But when the opposing team has no big name receiver to keep his mind in the game, he plays like we saw against the Bears. He would probably benefit the most from playing more press coverage. He must get bored as hell out there playing this weak a$$ 12 yard cushion coverage and giving up 7 yard receptions every 3 plays.

Santonio sure dropped alot of passes
Jeff Reed missed two moderate kicks.
And Bruce Airhead Arians called a strike for a TD when on 3rd and 2 in the opponent's redzone.

Sometimes you have to throw it deep, otherwise the opponent loads up against the run/short pass. Holmes had a step, just dropped it. You have to make those calls, otherwise you end up with a Chad Pennington offense.
Unfortunately, we don't have the type of line where it is "You know I'm going to run, I know I'm going to run, but you can't stop me".
Heck, even with Bettis and better O-lines I remember several key points (ex 2004 AFC Champ Game) where we failed in short yardage.

Steelers have always been notorious for playing to the level of the competition. Hopefully we take Cin. serious and make a stand. Press coverage doesn't seem to be in LeBeau's arsenal. We need to put it in to mix things up a bit.

I also watched that play in abject horror. Although Ike may have been thinking "well I cant catch them if they are thrown right to me - how am I going to dive and cathc one?"
