The Steelers cut:
quarterback Mike Reilly;
running backs Carey Davis, Isaac Redman and Justin Vincent;
wide receivers Dallas Baker, Tyler Grisham and Brandon Williams;
tight end Dezmond Sherrod;
offensive linemen Jason Capizzi, Jeremy Parquet and A.Q. Shipley;
defensive linemen Sonny Harris, Steve McClendon and Scott Paxson;
linebackers Bruce Davis, Tom Korte, Andy Schantz and Donovan Woods;
defensive backs Roy Lewis and Anthony Madison;
and kicker Piotr Czech.

tight end Sean McHugh was placed on injured reserve and will miss the entire season.

That gets the team to the required 53 man limit; leaving
3 QBs,
4 RBs,
6 WRs,
3 TEs,
9 OLs,
7 DLs,
8 LBs,
10 DBs,
1 kicker,
1 punter,
and 1 long snapper.

More moves to come?

Coach Mike Tomlin said cutting the Steelers' roster to 53 players was merely the first step to building a team he hopes can contend for another Super Bowl title. But it is not the last step. He called the process on-going, something that can and will continue throughout the season.

It might even continue today, or, at least, before the start of the regular season Thursday night.

Tomlin made official his final cuts yesterday, announcing the names of the 21 players who were waived and also placing veteran tight end Sean McHugh, who had arthroscopic knee surgery last week, on the season-ending injured reserve list.

But the roster could get another adjustment soon because the team is in the market for a veteran offensive lineman -- preferably, a tackle/guard -- to add some experience to the backups, none of whom have played in an NFL game.

Was Jones a bust? I know he never lived up to his potential, but then again, that doesn't mean he wasn't adequate at what he was doing... Not many players on our offensive line right now have lived up to anything. Average could be an upgrade depending on how you look at it.
