Since Batch's injury is serious who should Steelers bring in
Would you want the Steelers to bring Pennington in?
If not then who?

it's official Batch's collar bone is broke - nice call Father George.
just thought of something about Pennington.
Cowher called him and told him we were drafting him and then we took at WR.
He might be pissed at the Steelers.

They'll probably bring back QB Jared Zabransky who they cut earlier this summer.

Come on think.
Are we really going to let a rookie back up Ben?
And Mike Potts as our #3?

Dolphins | Pennington agrees to terms
Fri, 8 Aug 2008 18:33:35 -0700
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Miami Dolphins have reached a two-year deal with free-agent QB Chad Pennington (Jets). Financial terms were not disclosed.
Wonder if it is a done deal?

no, he is not..
pennington would have been the best since hes known to be the most inteligent qb in the leage, which is what you need at this point in the preseason.

If it's only gonna be a 4-6 week injury, then let's just hope that Ben doesn't get hurt! No point in wasting cap space on a vet who will want at least a few million that we'll waive by week 2 or 3.
Otherwise, anyone know how healthy Culpepper is?

well it looks as though leftwich is coming in. i believe he will sign a 1 yr contract or something as long as he looks ok in a tryout.
im shocked to hear batch is only supposed to be out 4 to 6 weeks... the fracture must be pretty small.
i believe that this means dixon is going to the practice squad this year (assuming they sign leftwich) and leftwich will back-up ben and then become the 3rd string QB once batch returns.

Looks like Tomlin wants to bring in a vet.

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Charlie Batch broke his right collarbone in the preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles and is expected to miss four to six weeks.
Coach Mike Tomlin says the team hopes to sign a veteran to replace Batch, perhaps as soon as Saturday.
Tomlin said Batch was hurt on a broken play midway through the second quarter of the Steelers' 16-10 victory.
Batch scrambled for six yards off left tackle after running back Mewelde Moore didn't take a handoff. Batch lowered his shoulder and was hit on the play.
He remained in the game but left after handing off to Gary Russell on the next play with 6:13 left in the half.

The Steelers were actively trying to sign a veteran quarterback Friday night after losing Charlie Batch for at least a month to a broken right collarbone in their 16-10 win over the Eagles at Heinz Field.
Batch left the game early in the second quarter after rushing for 6 yards on a broken play.
Coach Mike Tomlin said he is expected to miss four to six weeks.
"Unfortunate incident," Tomlin said, "but our approach is it's part of football. We'll regroup and make necessary adjustments."
The loss of Batch leaves the Steelers with two rookies, fifth-round pick Dennis Dixon and undrafted free agent Mike Potts, behind Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback.
Their inexperience is why the Steelers were working the phones right after they beat the Eagles in the preseason opener for each team.
Batch ended up with the ball in the Steelers' backfield after Mewelde Moore went the wrong way on a running play. He broke a couple of tackles but paid dearly for the surprising gain he made.
"The competitor got the best of him, and he lowered his shoulder," Tomlin said. "The end result was a broken collarbone."
Said Moore, who signed with the Steelers in March, "I'm wearing it. Nobody's trying to make mistakes like that. It's tough"
