PFW.com says Moore and Sweed could surprise this season

RB Mewelde Moore — Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall are slated to get the vast majority of the carries, but both missed stretches with injuries last season, and Moore proved to be a capable fill-in starter. He's a draft-and-stash / waiver-wire pickup candidate.

WR Limas Sweed — He disappointed as a rookie, but he has some upside, and as Nate Washington proved, the Steelers' No. 3 receiver can have some fantasy value. Take a wait-and-see approach with him; he might not beat out Shaun McDonald initially, but he has more potential.

Seems like he is now in the same place Nate Washington was when he first joined the team. I hope he grows into it like Nate did.

Hopefully it was just rookie jitters that had Sweed dropping all those balls. He was able to get open, so that's a good sign. But if he continues to drop the easy passes it will be one hell of a waste of a second round pick.

And damn, I sure the hell hope our first pick that draft can hold on to the ball and stay healthy. We need Mendy to step up big! After re-signing Heath I don't know how much more we can offer Wee Willie to stick around.

sweed's problem in 2008 was the same reason we should reserve judgment until further inspection:

he didn't get enough playing time!

retard arians lets a deep threat rot on the bench, then makes a mistake in a high-stakes game. FOR NOW, sweed deserves some slack. if, in the future, he gets plenty of time on the field and continues to drop the ball, you can crucify him then.

i think so, too. he definitely has the talent and the speed. he was really good at texas. we just have to see what he's got from the neck, up. if he's got the brain to be a great receiver. or if he'll crack under the pressure.

i think we have good enough coaches to help him be really good.

After seeing only slight action in 2000, Pinkston took over as a starter in 2001 following the release of Charles Johnson and Torrance Small. Partnering with James Thrash, Pinkston caught 42 balls for 586 yards and four touchdowns. In 2002, Pinkston enjoyed his best year. He hauled in 60 receptions for 798 yards and seven touchdowns. His performance that season earned him a five-year contract extension with the Eagles, which included a large signing bonus.[1]

Pinkston's numbers dipped slightly in 2003, but he was productive down the stretch and registered a key touchdown in a playoff game against the Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately, the next week, Pinkston was manhandled and held catchless by Carolina Panthers cornerback, Ricky Manning Jr., who at 5'8" was six inches shorter than Pinkston. Manning snagged three interceptions, and the Eagles lost the 2003 NFC Championship 14-3, the third consecutive defeat suffered by the team in the conference title game.

Criticism of Pinkston turned particularly harsh after a game against the Washington Redskins on December 12, 2004, when Pinkston was accused of giving up on a catchable pass across the middle. ESPN analyst Joe Theismann commented "...this is a great way to lose your job as a receiver in the National Football League." However, later that half Pinkston was the recipient of an 80-yard bomb from Donovan McNabb, furthering the paradox between his big play potential and his reluctance to run routes in traffic.

This negative publicity notwithstanding, Pinkston's 18.8 yards-per-catch average for the 2004 regular season was exceeded by only one other NFL receiver with as many or more receptions than the 36 he recorded (Ashley Lelie of the Denver Broncos averaged 20.1), and his six catches gaining 40 or more yards was topped by only three other receivers (teammate Terrell Owens, who had nine, and Javon Walker of the Green Bay Packers and Dennis Northcutt of the Cleveland Browns with seven each).

I think Moore is a great player to have on your roster. It seems like all he does is come up with plays that pick up first downs and keep drives alive (i.e. Steelers OT win over Ravens last season)

yeah moore is alot like famous amos who used to come in and always pick up that 3 or 4 yards on a draw. i think moore can catch better than ol' amos so that solidifies his roster spot for the extended future. and plus, like they said he filled in admirably when parker and mendy got hurt. to be honest i don't think we will miss willie next year if mendy proves to be capable of handling the load. i still think we should keep him though, no sense trying to bring someone else in if he is willing to sign at a lower salary. he already had his payday back in what, 06? i don't think there are teams out there willing to throw big money at a guy who hasn't shown the speed that made him a starter. I love the guy, he was in high school a few counties away from me while i was in high school so I really got excited when we had him as our #3 or 4 back...when he became a starter, forget about it...i knew he would do big things. longest sup bowl run in history...nuff said. i think tomlin was greedy with him, i doubt they did have plans for him past his contract i.e "run him till the wheels fall off"

Limas Sweed, if you followed him in college, u know he has the physical capabilities to perform in the NFL.


And he has shown some glimpses last season. I think now it's just a matter of him getting more reps, which will be tough in this offensive system, and playing behind Hines and Tonio....


But I still think Limas will be very good. He would've been a 1st round pick if it wasn't for his injury.
