It's mediocre.

I think he's overpaid, but serviceable. I think he probably played better than the perpetually injured Smith. So with the signing it looks as if the left side will be together for awhile. Stability is good if they continue to improve.

Its good for the Stillers and good for Starks! Starks has been the consumate professional during his demotion then promotion, franchised with no long term deal and never uttered a bad work towards the management. He might not be the best Lt and has some holes in his game but I think we won 2 bowls with him starting for us. Stillers don't reach for Lt's in the draft or over pay for free agents. This guy can teach others how to approach the pro game and is great to have on our team! Stillers took the time needed to make a long term deal and took care of their own which is what makes them so great and me a die hard fan. I can't believe how much negative stuff was written about how bad the stillers were in overpaying him when its all said and done they got it right for the organization. Way to Stillers.

Starks has had better timing than friggin' Ravenstahl becoming mayor due to Bob O'Connors' demise. This guy is the definition of average NFL O-lineman. Their drafting of linemen (lack thereof) is pathetic.

It all really depends on how much they gave him. I sure hope it wasn't top 5 money. I guess I could live with 4 years for 24 million, but I'm thinking it had to be more like 4 years 28 to 30 million which is too much.

James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers saved roughly $3 million in cap space for the 2009 season after signing OT Max Starks to a four-year, $26.3 million deal Tuesday, June 23.

We could still have Faneca who did squat with the Jets after crying about how bad the stillers treated him. He got his payday and the Jets got what? They sure didn't get another superbowl as we did with the "average" Starks. Gee, the stillers seem to know what they're doing.

I'm in FWP39's camp. Starks will remain a happy Steeler. A happy Steeler makes the clubhouse a better place. I tend to believe the Stillers have a great commeraderie (sp?) because guys are treated well and I sense they genuinely play for each other. Yeah, there will be no Pro Bowls here but the man is big and the man is a pro and I believe he loves being a Stiller. He's ours and I'm happy he's tied up for awhile. He won't hurt us.
