Interesting draft fact

Postby thesteelhammer » Tue Apr 14, 2009 9:46 pm

There has not been a trade involving a top-five NFL Draft pick since 2004.

That is because no team wants to pay the ludicrus dollars the top five pick get. Who wants to commit to Albert Hayensworth type money to an unproven rookie?

I wouldn't be surprised if this changes when the new CBA is negotiated. The players are going to have to make sacrifices, and it's going to come from the rookies. It's crazy to pay a guy who hasn't taken a snap in the pros so much $$$.

It may be more of a calculated risk than something that's crazy. The return on investment in terms of home game attendance and tv ad revenues can be huge if the team acquires the right rookie that the fans will pay to see. Finding that "right" rookie is clearly an art, not a science.
