"Ward" Rule passes. NFL goes wussy

Postby thesteelhammer » Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:32 pm

Brought about by Ward's hit ont the Bengals LB:
Barry Wilner, of The Associated Press, reports the NFL owners have passed a rule that a blindside block can't be delivered by a helmet, forearm or shoulder to an opponent's head or neck. If a player violates the rule, he will receive a 15-yard penalty.

and one to "protect" defenseless WRs as well:
Barry Wilner, of The Associated Press, reports the NFL owners have passed a rule that initial contact to the head of a defenseless receiver will draw a 15-yard penalty.

Can't leave the QB's out either:
Christopher L. Gasper, of the Boston Globe, reports the NFL Competition Committee has adopted a clarification of the current rule on low hits on the quarterbacks. The addition states it is prohibited for a defender on the ground who has not been blocked or fouled directly into the quarterback from lunging or diving at a quarterback's lower legs.

players starting to chime in on the rule changes

Free-agent SS Rodney Harrison (Patriots) said on the Dan Patrick radio show he feels the new rule changes are making the NFL "softer". "It's crazy," Harrison said. "You've been taught since you were six and seven years old to finish the play ... Football is supposed to be a man's sport ... The game is going to slow down and it's going to get softer." Harrison said the one rule they should get rid of is the chop block.

Will they enact the "Lambert Rule" now to require QBs to wear dresses?
The "Brady/Palmer Rule" involved a Steeler; Hines Ward and Ryan Clark have
asinine "rules" due to their aggressive play. Is the rest of the No Fun League
afraid of getting lit up by a Steeler? If yinz can't beat 'em, legislate 'em.

Let me first say I think the new rules SUCK.

But from another perspective, the so-called "Ward Rule" is a clear sign that Hines Ward is a Hall of Famer.
They just changed the rules to deal with Ward, much like they once did with Mel Blount.

Thr rule changes benefit the offense.

The League does not want defensive football to dominated, especially in the SB like they have for the past two.

The NFL would prefer that offenses dictate the game and television ratings...high scoring and arcade-style presentation, they salivate for.

Goodell wants Brady and Kraft to be holding up the Lombardi each February...your can bet your ass on that.

The League dislikes blue Collar teams but cherish primidonna teams with golden boy QB's

Thank you.

Sadly the NFL is following the rest of the world, taking the testosterone out of everything. Before you know it guys we will all be drowning in a sea of estrogen. :P

Which imo doesn't tailor to the average NFL fan.

I felt that my favorite game out of the 08 playoffs was probably Titans-Ravens.

The game was one of my favorites of the year, in fact.

Why see Warner flawlessly take a huge lead aginst the Eagles just for them to lose it? Why sit back and watch two mediocre defenses let the opposing team have their way with them?

Meanwhile, the Ravens really did nothing other than 1 decent drive for 3 points and 2 BOMBS for 10 points. That's football. Not this 12 play drives back and forth bs.

I always thought it was almost unanimous that a team who makes lots of interceptions is the most entertaining of all.

I'll give you another comparison:

I felt that the Patriots dominating the Colts in (04?) was much more entertaining and shocking than the "last person with the ball wins!" 06 game.

Save the high-flying high scoring bullshit for Arena football.

Defense_wins_championships (sorry, lr ;) ), and no true fan wants that to change.

What a sorry-assed wimpy league the NFL's become. They should've just told Ward to warn the player he has gonna smash that he was coming!
