Holmes fined 10,000?
Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Pittsburgh Steelers WR Santonio Holmes has been fined $10,000 for using the football as a prop during Super Bowl XLIII, according to a league source.

This is so typical. How many times this year did we see players get fined for things that weren't called penalties on the field? 3 weeks after the SB?? Pathetic. The NFL has truly become the nanny-state of pro sports. Can't hit too hard, can't get too excited, can't celebrate after making the greatest catch in SB history...guess the league had to cave into all of the whining AZ fans.

after reading the article...just had to laugh at this part:
...so Goodell's potential 'solution' to this problem will be that if a player waits 15 seconds or so, then does the celebration, it's not a penalty. Wow. I can already see booth reviews to make sure the player waited long enough to celebrate...unreal.
Roger Goodell believes the competition committee should consider making such late celebrations legal.
"It's my understanding that it happened about 15 seconds after the play," Goodell said at the Pro Bowl in Honolulu, "so I think that's something the competition committee is going to have to look it -- is there a period of time where it really doesn't have the same impact that it would if it was done immediately?

The refs at 15 seconds after a TD play are probably not looking at the players very much, they are getting set up to run the next play.
But you have to fine him if the TV shows it.
It's no biggie.

Re: Holmes fined 10,000?
i can understand the fine... but what took so long?
plus i don't think it was as early as "15 seconds after the play". i'll have to take a look, but i don't think he got up off the ground for at least 20.
Edit: watched the video... they didn't show it happen live, so I don't know. at least half a minute, though.
the point is: the refs didn't see it (setting up for the point after) and no players saw it (so it wasn't unsportsmanlike). so i don't see a problem with it.
am i the only one who didn't know it was the lebron james thing, though?

Here's a question for ya:
What if it was ruled incomplete after review? Do they still fine him long after?

good question
i would guess "probably not", since different drama would have taken place and it would have been forgotten.

Lebron James said he thought the team would probably pock it up...they might...but I do not think they are officially allowed to...it seems to me their was some debate over this a few years back...unofficially, o course, anything can happen. It would have been cool th have had a fund raiser at the celebrations in the Burgh to raise the money...a quarter a person would have more than covered it...the league should have let the fans know sooner.
