Changing talk from Tampa

Postby Still CA Still » Thu Jan 29, 2009 7:13 pm

Early in the week Jim Rome was claiming to be the only one giving the Cards a shot, now it seems that plenty of guys like Woodson, Cowher, Sharpe, Mort, et.al. are on the bandwagon. Has there been any appreciable news to justify this change? I can't believe anyone is looking at this game as a Pgh cakewalk, but it's starting to seem that the buzz has us now having to play the game of our lives just to have a shot. What up?

GOOD!!! Let them pick the Cards. No risk of the Eric Green initiated, super bowl shuffle overconfidence. Just win the game. I don't give a crap about anything else. JUST WIN!!

I'm hearing this from Steeler fans too.Arizona lost 7 games playing in a lousy division, gave up 56 points to the jets, and had nowhere near a tough a sked as the Steelers. So now we're supposed to fear them?

If they all said the Steelers were going to win, no one would watch their program. By saying the Cards have a legit shot at the upset, they generate more interest in thier shows. More people are going to tune in to see how they came to that decision. It's all about ratings. It's show business. :suahhbs:

Now, let the asswhuppin begin! :celebrate:

Go Steelers! :subngtowl:

What I've seen is they usually talk about the favorite first, then hype up the underdog steadily over the next two weeks.

You're right on, Bomber, it's all about ratings - they're actually worried about ratings dipping this year after last year's pulse-pounding finish to the SB, DESPITE the fact that the last Steeler Super Bowl appearance was the highest rated of all time.

Why would guys from ESPN give a shit about NBC's ratings? :? These guys are not on the NFL payroll. Take your Homer hats off and realize that the Steelers are in for a game on Sunday. Guys like Cowher and Mort and Berman and Woodson etc. care about being right they don't care about ratings.

I don't work in the industry, but it seems to me that overall interest in the game is good for EVERYONE (ESPN, NBC, NFLN) in terms of ratings. The better a game (on NBC), the more people will tune in for postgame reports, day-after coverage, interviews etc. on ESPN, NFLN, Comcast Sports Net and the like.

This is, I think, why CBS and FOX are allowed to show each other's highlights every Sunday during halftime reports and postgame shows - overall interest is good for every network.

As for the Steelers having a hell of a game in front of them, I sure don't dispute that. The Cardinals have a lot of big-play capability and our #1 D will have its hands full for 3.5 solid hours.

McLovin doesn't dispute your premise about the good of the game benefiting all the networks...they'll all be vying for pre-game viewers. McLovin's point is that Mort and Key and the other jerkoffs have big egos. They want to say I told you the Cardinals will win or I told you the Steelers defense was too tough for Warner. If they think the Cardinals will win it's because they believe the Cardinals will win not because they care about ratings and it surely isn't anything the NFL is telling them to say.

McLovin is right. These guys have huge egos. The infatuation with the Cards is peaking today with Schlereth being the latest to jump on. Lost in all this is the fact that none of these experts will be playing on Sunday. The only thing that counts is what our guys believe and execute. This will be a test to see how well we match up across both sides of the ball and how well we execute. Philly's DC got outcoached. The better overall team-coaches included-will win and I believe that's us.
