Warner vs Pats Super Bowl XXXVI

Postby McLovin » Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:10 am

McLovin's been keeping up with the Super Bowl via the NFL Network as he can't stand Cris Carter and Key Johnson (C'mon Man!). Anyway, Brian Baldinger and Solly Wilcots on their Playbook show broke down both the Cards and the Steelers and they both praised Warner for his ball control throughout the playoffs. McLovin also addicted to the past Super Bowl highlights running non-stop on the NFL network. After watching highlights of Super Bowl XXXVI where New England were heavy underdogs to the greatest show on turf. Warner and Faulk were coming off back to back league MVPs and their offense was unstoppable. What Warner and the Rams didn't count on was Bill Belicheat and his PHYSICAL style of defense. Warner was a turnover machine in that game giving the Pats 17 pts off turnovers. Warner threw 2 picks one to Ty Law for a TD and even fumbled going in for a score that Tebucky Jones returned for 97 yd td but was called back on a penalty. Ty Law should have been named MVP not Brady with his physical, dominating play at corner. Holt said of the Pats game plan, "They did a great job of dropping guys in a zone. They were allowing us to catch the ball and then coming up and sticking us." Warner got his stats going 28-44 for 365 with the Rams outgaining the Pats 427 to 267 but the point is the Pats pressured Warner into committing turnovers with 3 sacks and lots of pressure. Warner circa 2009 needs to be made aware of what real pressure is and IKE and the secondary need to be physical. Ask Willis McGayhee if the Steelers can be physical.

I truly hope that extremely physical DB play is a big part of the B&G game plan.
This is indeed a big equalizer, especially if applied early and often. The real key to our pressure on Warner must come up the middle; however, any pressure allows the short dumps with RAC potential. This is exactly where the wood must be laid-touch the ball and you will get waxed-over and over again. Punish every catch and we will be fine.
