Will Hines Play....well?
This is some serious rehab...
Ward's hyperbaric oxygen chamber will be shipped to Tampa

Ward ramps up rehabilitation
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsbu ... rss&feed=9
""He said he expects to practice next week, and one reason why Ward is optimistic that he will make a speedy recovery is because of the nature of the injury.
"The sprain is high, not low. It's more in the quad area, the high knee, I guess," Ward said. "That's where all the blood supply goes to, so it makes the healing process a little easier. If you sprain it, you want to sprain it there.""
....I guess that makes sense.

Re: Will Hines Play....well?
i think he will play as hard as he can because this is the super bowl. if it was the regular season i can understand if he would sit out even though he probably wouldn't. I hope he plays. He doesn't have to be the superstar but he is a great asset to the offense.

Re: Will Hines Play....well?
Hines will play. I don't know if he will play well, but he will play. I also think that simply being out there will be sufficient for the Steelers needs. Unlike a Fitzgerald, who has to be double teamed when he is at full strength, Hines usually only requires single coverage from a defense, so the Cardinals won't be able to game plan not having to double team him. They'll still have to commit that one warm body to Hines. Besides, if the guy can get past the sticks on third down, position himself for the catch and fall down, that's pretty much his game with the occasional long TD pass (hopefully Sweed and Washington will stock up on the stickum for the game and they'll be able to haul in one or two of those after so severely beating their man off the line).
Re: Will Hines Play....well?
His warm body also requires at the glancing attention from the safeties.
Does this type of injury warm out during play, thus getting better and easier on the player as he warms up? This will determine some of the early adjustments.

hines may not draw a double-team, but he draws respect and attention, which is crucial.
arizona will still be worried about sweed's speed, despite the drop.

Re: Will Hines Play....well?
The simple answer to the post question is YES, and YES again. He is a steelers legend
Re: Will Hines Play....well?
McLovin can't believe another thread was started to an already existing thread about Hines playing hurt. At least Tomlin must be doing his job in keeping players mouths and actions in check as if it weren't for Wards knee the media would have nothing to ask except the even dumber topic of the alleged Whiz/Ben feud. Hines granted some NFL network tool an interview yesterday for Total Access and he looked really annoyed by the line of injury questions. How many different ways can he tell these aholes...and some annoying parts of the fanbase for that matter...that he is going to rehab the best he can with what time he has available between now and the Super Bowl. Of course he's not going to be 100% but any idiot with a Forrest Gump IQ can tell you he is going to freakin play.

i think all of them are thinking "oh boy, i'm going to get the INSIDE scoop"
but since there is no scoop to be had, it's all just pointless

That's why the bye week really does take away some of the momentum away from the Super Bowl. We're stuck with this extra week with nothing to talk about except a slight knee sprain and a Steeler in Ben and a Card in Anquan that don't like Whiz...big freakin deal. But without that bye week Hines and the Steelers would be in deep shit. Another thing the bye week might do is slow down the momentum the cards have built in the playoffs. In the meantime, the media and fans have another full week of thinking of dumb topics to beat into the ground

Continuing discussion is easier for those interested on a new thread that answers the old thread...and doesn't have to sift through pages just to continue the discussion.
But you make a great point McShake, Steelers have been on point/on message better than the Bush administration. I like their systematic build up of Fizzy from everybody and their dentist on the Steeler team, setting up for a big let down.
Also,
I just like the fact that these articles answered some questions. I sorta dismissed the fact that their could be a "good" spot to injure an MCL, but I stand corrected. The idea of providing more oxygen to this area is also pretty cool.

This is what I was trying to say in my post, but it was early in the morning and I couldn't articulate very well.
Thanks for the summary.

You guys that think Sweed is going to doing anything except drop yet another critical pass in the Super Bowl aren't paying attention to the realities of the situation. For starters let's dispell the rumors that he's a speed guy he's a tall long strider he's no Randy Moss. Dulac and Douchette both said he practices as bad as he plays in chats not just this week but all year. For you Sweed enthusiasts that does not boad well for a guy who choked BIG TIME in the title game to expect him to miraculously play well in the biggest game a football player can play in.

i don't EXPECT him to do anything. the entire country (including sweed himself) will be holding their breath if the ball is thrown to him. and yes, there's a good chance he would drop another sure touchdown.
that doesn't mean that arizona doesn't have to game-plan for sweed. whether his speed comes from actual speed or long legs, he can get behind a defense, and that will worry them -- at least a little. hopefully enough to play deeper and give hines/holmes more room.
then they'll get tired of guarding sweed deep when we keep getting easy completions to hines and holmes, so they'll come up. and that's probably when we'll get a long pass to sweed.
and our hearts will stop...

From Dulacs chat transcript today,
Jacque_Strap: How well does Limas Sweed perform in practice?
pg_gerrydulac:: Like he does in the games. Exactly.

Re: Will Hines Play....well?
No shit.
I don't think that anyone is saying that Sweed is the second coming of TO, Moss, or anyone.
My only point was that maybe, just maybe, the guy can catch lightning in a bottle once (or just the fucking ball after breaking his defenders ankles on another sick double move similar to the Ravens game) and help the team win the Super Bowl.

Re: Will Hines Play....well?
you know, going back to the dallas/steelers superbowl...one of the reasons we lost (besides the experience/pressure handling of the cowboys at the beginning of the game and us coming out nervous), was out injuries to WR...CJ got taken out in the playoffs and well, the injury in the actual bowl, and us using a 5 wide set sometimes, led to 1 very bad interception....
i hate bringing that up but, i cant stop thinking about it...
there is no sure handed wr on the steelers except for ward...the only wr that you can truly count on...miller is very good too, but hes not a wide out...it is also amazing that we havent had a good catching starting rb except for maybe pegram since hoge...and thats scary.

Please guys, let's give the big guy some credit. Hines Ward is the epitome of a tough player. SteelCity, my guess is that if Hines doesn't draw a double-team, he gets a second MVP. You heard it here, first.
Will Hines play well? Seems like a silly question from anyone who has followed the Steelers for any length of time.
Hines Ward for president!
