I know it is blasphemy to say such things in Baltimore but Ed Reed killed the Ravens chances on Sunday. He was definitely the weak link in an otherwise great defense. He had a hand in allowing all 3 Steelers offensive scoring drives (the other 2 scores were off 2 ints). On the first drive he foolishly went for the INT on the completion to Ward early in the game. He could have simply timed his hit and broke up the pass for an incompletion. Instead Ward makes the grab and rumbles 30 yards into field goal position.
Then on the second scoring drive on the run after catch that Holmes had for a TD, Ed timidly watched the floating pass that eventually landed in Holmes hands from his deep position 20 yards downfield of Holmes, he then grabbed another mouthful of popcorn and watched Holmes gather himself and start trekking across field. We all know that Ed is fast and I would have expected when the ball floated from Big Bennie's hand for him to make an aggessive football play and cut off Holmes trek across field shortly after the reception. I watched the replay of this one a few times and am mystified why he was so passive and allowed the blockers to form without ever making a break to go after Holmes. If Ed makes any attempt to slow Holmes or change his direction one of the other defenders would have caught him from behind if he couldn't make the tackle himself.
Then in the 2nd half on the ONLY Steelers offensive scoring drive Ed had a hand in that one too. The Steelers were backed up with a 2nd and 24 from their own 20 or so. Rothshitsberger scrambles and finds Heath Miller 20 yards downfield among 3 defenders. Ed Reed who was the deep man had every opportunity to come up and take Miller down right after catch a few yards short of the sticks. Instead he flails with some weak-assed shove that Miller ignored as he rumbled up the sideline for another 10 yards and a first down. Again Ed could have/should have stopped Miller 2-3 yards short of the sticks by going in with a torpedo-like tackle at the legs of Miller (like Polamalu did to Heap on a critical 3rd down play). Of course none of the writers or media in this city would ever point out these game changing gaffes by Ed Reed. The local (and National media for that matter) only talk about the "splash plays" and fail to discuss how Ed's complete aversion to physical contact cost the Ravens a trip to the Superbowl. If Ed made those plays that any NFL caliber safety should make we could be talking about 3 points instead of 13 on those 3 Steelers possessions and a completely different game.
On a brighter note, The Ravens front 7 were awesome. Ngata again showed he is a beast. "

Re: Blashemy in Baltimore
We all know that Reed is another Deion Sanders type of player. All flash and not enough substance. Media loves this type of player. You will see him on NFL network some day sitting right next to Prime Time.
I vote hoax. (Re: Blashemy in Baltimore)
Oh, come on now. Clearly the quoted post (link?) is in the “StillMill styleâ€.
All it needed to be truly blatant was the addition of the words “flops and†prior to the use of “flailsâ€, or perhaps a reference to a “dong interceptionâ€.
The explanation is most likely one of the following in declining probability order:
- Hoax / joke perpetrated here for laughs
- Actual post by a Raven Mill copycat
- “Ngataman Butabeast†is a trolling alias used by the man hisself

Re: Blashemy in Baltimore
the only time sped reed shows up against the stillers is when he is getting wrecked by Hines.
