Who's going?

Postby lloydrules » Mon Jan 19, 2009 3:41 pm

Tickets in the nose bleeds are going to run around 2k. Plus all the other expenses. But, my God, it's going to be awesome. All that black and gold, in Tampa. It's in easy driving distance for us so it's tempting. But it's going to be at least 5k. Who else is considering making the trip? We haven't decided yet.

i'm already blowing off a six-hour car ride to buffalo for father-in-law's birthday for the game, i don't expect to have enough leeway to head to the game. plus we're broke.

if i go anywhere, it will be to parent's house in canton to watch the game with my dad.

My father in law (a lifelong Patriots fan) has a 60 inch Sony HD... I wonder what it'll take to hijack it for the night on 2/1.

That's as close as I'm getting to the game.

I got a 58" HD deal. It makes a good argument to not go to game. I know it would be an awesome time, but honestly, being in an area that crowded for that long (probably Friday thru Monday morning) is the biggest drawback for me. I'm not into crowds and traffic. But it's gonna be wild.

That's another option we spoke of: going to the area to soak it in, but not going to the game. I'm sure 10s of thousands of PS fans are taking that route. But that's if you even can get a room new Tampa. I suppose they may be boarding people in hotels as far as Orlando.

I haven't been able to sleep well debating if I should spill those 5k to go to the game. First of all, the wife would probably kill me before I get to Tampa, and secondly, I guess I could use that kind of money to get myself a pretty nice 60 inch HD with all the works and make everyone happy...
Anyways, I'm starting a fund to assist to the very next Steelers Superbowl no matter what. I figure you just gotta do it at least once in your life.

Fuck it, why the hell not. Just get there to enjoy the whole atmosphere and maybe, just maybe, get lucky and find some tix at a decent price (a cousin of mine got two for face value from a guy whose son couldn't make it, back in Superbowl XXX, the lucky bastard).

my dad and i did the same thing for the MLB all-star game in '94 when it was at three rivers. we drove out a few days before from ohio without tickets, and hung around some hotels and parking lots asking around. managed to find a pair and enjoyed a very exciting game.

super bowl might be a bit tougher, though.

I have a place to crash, but need to score tix. I haven't ruled out a trip yet.

I went in '06 and it was surreal, but money was easier back then and it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This year I'm on the fence about doing it again. Agreed about the brokeness.

Ok here is the deal:

For Super Bowl XL I was VERY fortunate enough to get two tix at Face value in the upper endzone ($600 a pop) and flew in from Diego to Pgh, rented a car, drove to Motown, then back to Pgh a day or two later for the victory parade.

Now while I was at the SuperBowl and experiencing the whole thing and the whole game I kept saying there is no other place in the world I would rather be right now. I said that up until the final play. At that point a trigger-mechanism went off in my head (after it started to sink in we had won the fuc$%in SuperBowl) and immediately thought.... there is no other place I would rather be right now than in Pittsburgh (southside or in Oakland).

With all that said, I am considering flying into the burg (I was just there last month over the holidays) and watching the game at a Southside bar or in Oakland somewhere...and just partying for 3 or 4 days there. I would love to be there to celebrate a victory should it occur. It better!!!!!

Still on the fence about the Tampa route (unless I could get face tickets again).
So all those planning on going to Tampa I just wanted you to hear it from someone who was able to make the big dance and what might go thru your head.

Driving back to the home base in Pittsburgh might be a great idea! Meet up with old friends and family back there would make for a more powerful atmosphere. I remember being at a Superbowl XL party here in Philly with about 20 friends and it was only me and my brother going bezerk....maybe I should just get better friends?

I may have 2 tickets available. A buddy and I are going to the game, but I have 2 extra tickets and someone I know is trying to come up with the money to buy them. I have given him till the end of the week, if he can't come up with the money I will post it on this board.
