Foote expects to lose job to Timmons this year

And he sounds far less negative about it than, say Okobi last summer. Probably because he will still get paid, and he sees the long-term picture.

But as Bouchette points out, a 1st-round pick that isn't starting by season two is a very very very very bad sign and an embarassment to the FO.

I was worried that Foote would sound very negative about this situation, where he seems fairly philosophical.

Foote and Haggans will be solid LB'ers for the Cards next year.

My only question is:
DID FOOTE EVER EXPECT TO BE A STARTER?

Dude is absolutely mediocre.
Not the stuff Steelers LB's are made of.

IMO... I'd put Foote in the Jerry Olsavsky category... you don't want him starting (except for spot/emergency starts) but love to have him for depth.

Yeah, I agree, except IMO, Olsavsky was going to be a dominate LB until the injury that change his career.
Everybody forgets the Olsavsky that was drafted out of the University of Pittsburgh in 1989 and originally wore # 92 for the Steelers. Everybody just remember him as #55 (the number he wore after he came back from the injury) who filled in so well in the mid 90's when Chad Brown got hurt.

But Both Foote and Jerry O were undersized. I'm just saying I think Olsavsky had more upside when he was drafted.

Good point, Hammer. I was doing a comparison to #55.

Also, I'd add that Jerry O. had a huge heart that would rival most.... I wouldn't put Foote in that same category.

Timmons gets off this year. He's going to make some big hits and create turnovers and wreak havoc kind of like Kendrell Bell did his rookie year. Farrior and the other Vets will mentor him. Foote knows Lawrence is better he just needed to get comfortable in the scheme. I do like Foote for depth as well. With that said we are a better football team than last year.

Good comparison. I think Foote actually has more ability, but Olsavsky had much more heart. Neither are ideal starters, but both are capable backups.

I'm hoping Timmons has heart like Jerry-O. He's got much more ability than both.
Marines should come with warning labels.

What amazes me is that to this point, we still have no idea what kind of heart Timmons has, and can only hold out hope...

Obviously, THE TIME IS NOW (well, in another 2 months) for him to show us what he's got.

I am "cautiously optimistic", though...

Well lets just hope he can be productive when needed or move on when he isnt.
