arians discounts running game theory

he should be fired this AM after all of america reads his imbecilic rants and comments.
The reason we could pass in the playoffs and WIN was precisely because everyone FEARED our run (or at least though/knew we would run first)
He is an imbecile and must be fired.
it will happen after we lose in the playoffs b/c we cannot score more than 12, 13 points.

My God, he's fucking delusional. You're exactly right about having the feared rush attack opening up the pass game in that playoff run. Furthermore, many of those rush yards cited were short yardage, third and fourth downs, and touchdowns. None of which has been there this year. If he doesn't see that, he doesn't deserve to carry Tomlin's jock, let alone the fucking playbook. That having been said, I wouldn't be surprised if the opposite comes true this year. Everybody sets up for the pass, and we can actually run the ball in the playoffs. Furthermore, our defense can score 12-13 points on their own. Ben just has to not turn the damn ball over.

agree. difference between 2005 and now, is that teams had to stack the box with 8 to stop tje run. now they're rushing 4 and dropping 7 into coverage because the running game won't make them pay for it.

He needs to go coach the 49ers or some other wine & cheese team.
This is Pittsburgh - WE RUN THE BALL and PLAY DEFENSE.

Wow. This is hilariously close minded.
Why do we have to "run and play defense". Why can't we "run, pass, and play defense". What makes running the ball so spectacular. You play. to win. the game. You don't just play to just run the ball. You play. to win. the game (thanks Hermanator).
Arians is a terrible offensive coordinator, but everything he said was accurate.
In '05 we had a REALLY good pass offense and a pretty good run offense.
BTW people. Read this and digest it. You run when you win, not win when you run. Take a second, read it over, comprehend what it means and understand how it explains reality.
Arians should be let go in the off-season, but his statements are true. Get over your false notions of how "Steeler Football" should be played and understand that the initiative is score points and give your defense good field position. No matter how that happens. You don't have to be a good running team to win. Furthermore, our running offense isn't that bad. Parker was out for most of the year so we used Moore to the best of his abilities. Which meant lower doses of hand-offs.
Raw statistics (like 23rd in rushing yards) are incredibly poor ways to rank a team's effectiveness in a given area.

Re: arians discounts running game theory
We have a great D.
Running the ball chews up clock, shortens the game, and keeps our D fresher than 3 incomplete passes.
Our QB isn't playing great football, and has bee turning the ball over.
We currently have two starting caliber RBs.
I'm not saying, we should go back to the single wing and not pass at all. Obviously there has to be balance, but Arians run game sucks and it learly starts with his atitude about it.

Let's not forget that our o-line was pretty damn good back in 05' as well. We came out throwing in the playoffs that year because teams were afraid of our running game. Ben was playing better in 05' than he is now, we had a much better return game with Randle El, we had the trick play that teams had to worry about, Whisenhunt was far superior to Arians in the OC department. Let me say this, it will not be other AFC teams that pose the biggest obstacle to the Steelers reaching the Super Bowl, it will be the dumbass Bruce Arians that will be our biggest opponent.

Well I do not like Arians but the fact is that we will lose because our O-Line stinks and our millions dollar QB is the least consistant QB in the Play Offs. Tomlin is as much to blame as Arians because after 2 years if he hasn't figured out that Arians is an idiot and taken over play calling than it is now his fault. Remember last Play off game all we needed was 1 first down and we ran the ball 3 times up the middle for a total of 3 yards and punted the game away. I donot care if Arian calls the play or not Tomlin knows what is being called and eveidently agrees with it. Tomlin is not the great coach everyone thinks he is. So though I agree Arians needs to go Tomlin needs to accept more responsibility and accountability for the lack of Offense.

we may agree to disagree, but no team needs to put 8 in the box now against us - that is a combo of Arians, the OLINE talent, and our RB's. BUT - if we had played 'Steeler' football (cold weather football, on grass, I will wear you down football), then we would be a serious treat to go all the way. The AFC is weak this year - we are 50/50 I would say to win the AFC, but our O cannot get out of it's way - no TD in the last 4 games first quarter? We were scoring 24-30 points/game last year - and we stunk down the stretch last year. Yes, the oppposition is steeper this year, but NO EXCUSE the bag of crap game plans of BA this year and last.
RUN THE I next week - throw a little confusion into the game, then PLAY ACTION off of it. BTW, Ben is not as healthy either with little to no zip / mustard on his passes and clearly not much long ball touch (and no time to throw it anyhow)
