You're not a Pittsburgh Steeler...
... So stop using "we", "our", and "us".
This has got to be my biggest pet-peeve when it comes to NFL fanaticism.
You've never suited up. You've probably never even been on the field (I'm sure SOMEONE that reads this has taken the tour), much less been on when the game clock is running.
I don't know if it's the need to feel like you're part of something special but uh... At the end of the day. You're just a fan. I'm just a fan.
Check "we", "our", and "us" at the door when referring to the Steelers. THEY play the game. WE do not.
You know who you are.

Don't you mean "I will refer to us any way i choose......" ?
Re: You're not a Pittsburgh Steeler...
Your argument is flawed.
I'm not sure I'm the one this is directed at or not and I really guess it's not important...however:
"We" are the fans and the team is part of "us." That's the context it is being used in.
Using your logic, no one should be upset when the lose or happy win they win. After all, we didn't play, we didn't coach, we didn't scout. Therefore, since we have no actual involvement in their output (be it a win or loss), then we should be "Spock like" after each Sunday. Activity on this board would suggest that is not the case. Activity on the board would suggest a HIGH emotional involvement each weekend.
Using your logic, it is absurd to have a jersey with a players number on it (say Ward for instance). I mean, after all, that's not YOUR name, YOUR NOT Hines Ward and, since you don't play for the Steelers, why on earth would you have or need a "authentic" NFL jersey?
Hell, if we never "suited up" as you put it then, for crying out loud -- I might not know how to put the damn thing on! Horror! On the other hand, a look throughout the stadium would suggest that thousand of fans enjoy wearing jerseys.
Using your logic, fans, hell, we might as well not show up. Why even have crowd noise? Maybe we can make football more akin to the game of golf. I mean, after all, we are not part of the team. Just mere bystanders who through the purchase of tickets, concessions, and a sundry list of merchandise, actually make this game go.
Finally, and most importantly, using your logic, this board would probably not exist.
Let me tell you...for a bunch of folks that never even "suited up" as you put it, we sure as hell think we know alot about this team.
I think the activity on this board would suggest that we Steeler fans DO associate with the team...we DO believe they are a part of us (no matter how silly that may seem)....and win they win "we win" and win they lose, "we lose."
Frankly, I've been following this team for over 30-years. I've supported them during good times and bad. I really guess I don't give a damn if you think I should use the words "us," "we," and "our."
Here's a suggestion....I read alot of things on this board that I don't like either....and I simply move on to the next thing. Try it. It works.

You're not part of the team.
THAT is my logic. Plain and simple. No long-winded diatribe needed.
WE are fans. THEY are the team. There is a FINE distinction between the two.

Oh yeah?
Well... Well... Well...
My football team can kick your football team's ass twice in a season.
So there!
Re: You're not a Pittsburgh Steeler...
Hey Woodson....
I gave this some more thought.....you know, in all seriousness...with the way things are today in this world some folks only have the Steelers to look forward to. They kinda think they are really helping when they show up at the game. They really do think the team can hear them through the TV.
I'm not sure I would want to be the guy who takes that last bit of dignity away from someone Woodson.

Hey Reed....
This is between "US" ....not "YOU" Ratbirds.
I bet "YOUR" team board does not have this kinda of discussions, huh?

We all have our own stories... Especially with the Steelers.
Barry Foster is the best Steelers running back I've ever seen play for Pittsburgh. Fan since '90. Born in '80. Hell... My dad got me going when I was like 3. I had a picture in the paper with him holding a ball and me about to kick it wearin' some Terry Bradshaw tike-goodness.
I buried him in a Greg Lloyd jersey. He brought me in right so I sent him out right. He loved him some "I wasn't hired for my disposition"ness. Dude was 'nasty' according to him. Didn't he pull a gun on his son?
It was nice to... After being alive for almost 26 years... See them win a Super Bowl. I was glad to see Jerome Bettis win it at home. (Jerome Bettis is from Detroit. ) He's my all-time favorite Steelers running back. I have a jersey that he wore in a game. It was 85% of my wardrobe my senior year in high school...
Damn you, Neil O'Donnell, Damn yooooooou!!!! I had to wear a dress to high school thanks to that mutha fugga... I grew up in west Texas. (I have a lil bit 'a yee-haw in muh step, sir.) Most ALL of my friends that watched football were Cowboys fans. I lost a bet. Enter high-school cross-dressing suck.
Yeah... I've been pretty devoted to them. I always say... The best season of the year is football season. That commercial with the Packer fan... It should be black-and-gold runnin' from MY finger.
I'm just sayin'.
/long-winded diatribe
The Pittsburgh Steelers = They are my team. I like to watch them. I hope they win this Super Bowl. If they DO win the Super Bowl... "We" didn't do it.

P.S. - This is what part of the alphabet would look like if "Q" and "R" turned up missing. - Mitch Hedberg

What ouch, El Neenyo.
The Texas A&M University might sue you for that remark.
Or Hines Ward might get fined.

Just saying, the fans are what make the Steelers in the end. What if nobody watched their games, bought their merchandise, or tickets? Ownership goes bankrupt and is forced to sell the team. From there, well, the team gets moved to another city, or worst case scenario, renamed and moved (like what happened to the original browns). Then the Steelers cease to exist and will be nothing but a memory in today's NFL. Of course that's an extreme, but that's just one way of putting it, that the fans are the life blood of any team.
I know what you mean, and yes we all know we're not 'players'. I personally don't use the 'we' talk, but it doesn't bother me.

Ah HA!
See. That's what I now think separates myself from the "we", "us", "our" crowd...
Consumerism.
Those that are financially-vested. The ones that go to the games consistently and buy all the merch you can get your hands on.
I've been given a lot of Steelers stuff. Haven't bought much though. Been to a few games... But all-in-all... I'm lucky to see Steelers games in DFW at home.
Maybe it's just because I wanna be a yinzer. *sigh* All jealous and stuff.
