Re: LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!
The Jets were/are a shitty offensive team. Most of their success is due to their Defense and Special Teams, which were ineffective for most of the game. Most of my "bitching" is for the fear that LeBeau will, once again, not learn his lesson from this game, when The Steelers will play a team that is 10 times better on both sides of the ball than these scumbags in a game for The Holy Grail. The guy you keep constantly defending was the same nimrod who thought the best defensive scheme against a no talent, immobile sea turtle like Flacco was to rush 3 guys and let him sit back in the pockett...
Oh, and I'm beyond sick of the "give them credit/they get paid to play too" excuse. I don't give a shit what they get paid. It's not an excuse for anybody on this team not to do their job. Imagine if The Steelers went 0-16 next season. But I guess under some of the posters here school of thinking, that would be o.k. since all the teams they would lose to "gets paid to play too." Give me a break...

Another superb, spot-on post, 76. Well stated. Yes, I was being serious before, and still am. Your writing skills are more than good enough and your understanding of the game is tremendous. A job -- albeit fairly low-paying (sic) -- is yours here if ya want it. StillMill @stillers.com

I agree that their offense is not very explosive out there. However I don't think the Stillers will have much of a choice vs. the Pack in that I doubt they'll have a big lead at any point. Sure, LeBeau will have to decide how aggressive he'll have to be like always.
As for your 0-16 comment... that's not a good analogy in my opinion because we did not go 0-16...and more to the point, we did not lose Sunday... we actually won the game. So if I make the point that the other team actually has some talent and expecting to completely shut them down the entire game like we did for the first 29 minutes is unreasonable, it's based on a few things:
--How did the Jets perform offensively vs. the Stillers in the first game (13 points)
--How did they perform recently in the playoffs?
--Have the Steelers ever completely shut down another team in the playoffs the past 5 years or so? How about when they played Denver in 2005, when there were up 24-3 at the half? They gave up 14 points to the Broncos in the 2nd half vs. hapless Jack Plummer. The difference? The offense also scored 10 points so the final score was 34-17. Mill even noted after the game that LeBeau 'called off the dogs in the 2nd half, which did not enamor me', but still gave him an A- grade despite giving up 14 points just like the Steelers did Sunday.
Yes, the Steelers had less of a cushion Sunday so the 'dogs' perhaps should have been called back on quicker... I agree.
Finally, who 'did not do their job' Sunday? What is the goal of Steelers players and coaches? To get to, and to win Super Bowls, yes? It's hard to say they are not doing their job when they continue to outperform THE REST OF THE NFL statistically on defense and more importantly in their playoff and super bowl performance the past 5 years.
Again... which D-Coordinator should we replace LeBeau with and before we go get him, let's shine the "harsh Mill spotlight" (Said with love ; ) on that coach and see how their performance stacks up based on the player talent they have....
I would love to see a Mill report on Rex Ryan for this past game, or for Belichick last week, etc... and compare grades...
Re: LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!
If I'm not mistaken, Dick does not have a contract for next year. My interpretation of this is that this is his last year. Does anybody have an accurate recollection as to how the Steelers have treated other assistant coaches? Is my interpretation valid, or not?

Re: LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!
Just a little snippet I just heard....
I just heard an interview with one of the guys from the NFL network who interviewed Tomlin right after the game and Tomlin told him that part of the reason they let Ben throw on that 3rd down was that 'our defense was a bit tired', etc... which make sense since some of them are quite old and because the Stiller offense could not say on the field in the 2nd half!!

From what I've read, Dick has no intention of retiring and desires to stay in Pittsburgh.
Steelers leading 17-0, Jersey/B facing third-and-17 on its 26, LeBeau sent a rush of two defensive linemen, one linebacker and two defensive backs, with both defensive backs overloading the offensive left. Cornerback Ike Taylor, who hit Mark Sanchez, causing a fumble run back for a Pittsburgh touchdown, came through unblocked as megabucks first-round draft pick Jets left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson stood confused, not blocking anyone.
Yeah, that's OBVIOUSLY the hallmark of a pussy faggot "calling off the dogs" with no ability to scheme.

Re: LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!
Steelers have got to tighten up and make adjustments when needed next week. I think the fault with the game lay in the fact that neither LeBeau nor Arians were ready to counter what Ryan did after halftime. Jets kept the ball for much of the second half and Arians did not adjust to the Jets putting all those players in the box to stop the run. After hafltime Mendenhall was 26 yards on ten carries. It did hurt to lose Pouncy, but that was not completely the issue--it was the Jets crowding the line. You have three incredibly fast receivers, so let's go play action with flare passes to Mendy as option four! Now having said that Big ben sucked and you can't argue with a 38 passer rating--I give Big Ben for having mental toughness though when it isn't his night. He still made critical plays despite his throws sucking dick. Some athletes can't do that--they get down on themselves and their entire play goes down the crapper. Oh one more thing--with the exception of the punter, the special teams did their job. Thank the Lord for that because that would have been the difference.

Which was still in THE FIRST HALF. Why don't you talk about what your Lord and Master did in THE SECOND HALF? Oh, that's right...

Re: LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!
I'm not making up the Jets rankings. It's not hard to believe, it's FACT ... taken straight from nfl.com and espn.com ... Jets had the 11th ranked offense. Not based on defense or special teams ... as most know, offensive and defensive rankings are based on total yards gained, and given up. The Jets offense gained the 11th most total yards in the NFL. I'm sorry guys, they're weren't that bad ... a pretty damn good team, which they've proved 2 years in a row. It's really no different than when we got to all those championship games and continued to not get over the hump. The difference between all those teams and our 2 SB wins, was Ben. We've always had a good D, a good line, good running game, and serviceable QB's. That doesn't mean we weren't good, that doesn't mean our QB's sucked ... if they truly sucked we wouldn't have had the successes we had ... they just weren't the elite of the elite like Ben is, or Brady/Manning/Brees ... we were the same type team, and we were in all those games to the end, including the SB loss to Dallas. In the end, we just weren't QUITE good enough ... same with the Jets, at least for now. But they're close. Give some of these other teams credit. It seems ridiculous to act like we're just THAT superior to all other teams in the NFL, that we're never going to struggle, we're never going to give up points, and we're never going to lose leads or play in close games ... it's sports, football ... it happens at every level, to every team, all the time.
Re: LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!
It is clear that the only chance we have to stop the Pack offense in the SB will be to fire LeBeau and cut Woodley, Hampton, Clark, Farrior, Hood, and Willie Gay before the game. I almost sense that some of the rejects are hoping that we lose so that they can say "I told you so." I, for one, hope to see Mendy humpin' again in 11 days!
Re: LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!
"This was an NFL Team with the top ranked D..."
I supposed they achieved this ranking in spite of their DC?
Have fun cheering for Rodgers.

Re: LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!
I am curious if stillmill or steelers76 would contemplate starting up a chant of "lebeau must go" at Heinz field while we were receiving the championship trophy. I am asking seriously. Mill was at the game. Did he sit there and bash Lebeau all game long so all the people sitting around him could hear? Did he call Casey Hampton fat and lazy as he broke into the backfield? Was Big Ben assaholic all game long. Did the people sitting around him have to endure this?
Re: LeBeau Needs to Go.....NOW!!!!!!
I agree with some of the points in this thread. However, I keep thinking, who is better than LeBeau? Even the "great" Bill Bellichick's teams are capable of giving up second half leads - has happened multiple times, none bigger than Super Bowl XLII.
So, until I hear a name out there of a DC who is clearly better than LeBeau, I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
To me the more interesting debate is over the strategy of a "prevent" type defense when you have a big lead. The jets moved the ball something like 90 yards in one of their 2nd half drives but came away with no points - a point in favor of such a strategy. However, I think with the rules so favoring offense nowadays, you are not well served by using it, especially with a lot of clock remaining. Maybe a 3-score lead with 5 minutes left, you go "prevent" but otherwise, keep the cleats on the larynx.

Through all your mindless LeBeau worship, you have, not surprisingly, failed to see my point. A good D.C. does not have his players coming up to him begging to blitz, basically telling him how to do his job, and be right about it. A good D.C. does not call the dogs off on the other team when they get to within 2 TDs with a trip to The S.B. on the line. A good D.C. learns from his mistakes. None of this applies to Dickie anymore. The thing is if on the off chance he learned from this past Sunday's near debacle and puts forth a winning effort in The S.B., I will give him credit for doing so here, unlike some of you, which will always do so no matter what kind of a performance he puts forth.

I do agree with you he was not aggressive enough early this season and yes, his players did talk him into calling more blitzes, so you have to say that's a fair judgement against Dick. However, in fairness, we don't know how often that happens with other teams and other coaches either... we hear about it with the Steelers because we follow them very closely. Also, we don't know how many times the steelers players ask for other schemes or styles of play and Dick says no, and ends up being right... but I'm admittedly playing devil's advocate here a bit in that it certainly appeared they were too soft in the first portion of the season.
I'm wondering to what extent he 'called off the dogs' in the 2nd half. I have heard some interviews with steelers players and coaches that the Jets picked up the blitzes a lot better in the 2nd half and also that the steelers D was getting very tired by the 4th quarter because the steelers offense could not sustain any drives. I also just watched the 10 minute highlight reel from nfl.com and I saw a few blitzes in there...
In watching the game, it didn't seem like they were in a complete prevent, but I could be wrong as I don't have the game film , etc...
However in the 1st half, there were several crucial misses on Sanchez, 2-3 tipped/blocked passes, etc., and in the 2nd half the Jet's clearly played better on offense with fewer mistakes.
Again, I'm not a huge Lebeau fan just becuase I have these opinions... I don't get paid to endorse Dicky boy... just my opinions ; )
