You know the thing is is that this is an internet forum so there really isn't the threat of public shame because no one knows who you are. So here I am Steel 76. Mindless? Horse shit. You tell me who's better than Dick. Name the guy. Do it. Ben shat the bed and this helped contribute to the loss big time. That said, my line was and still is I don't see who LeBeau gets replaced with. But I'm finally ready to admit that I'm fucking sick of seeing games pissed away because our secondary can't cover. DICK SHAT THE FUCKING BED TOO. Wait...I'm pulling crow feathers out of my mouth...Any way, bring on Butler if AZ don't get him first. STILL, it's not like the 3 pre-final drive turnovers didn't contribute. Wipe them away and we win. But god damn, the secondary has been exposed for two straight seasons. Mill, you called it. I was wrong. As for the REST of the defense, hard to say Dick is a Dullard against the run. But when Troy isn't 100%, it's an exhibition on the secondary. When Troy is 100% healthy, it's a nail biter. I seem to recall Mill pointing out Troy is Dick's meal ticket.

We've already been thru the asininity of "who could possibly replace (insert coach name here)?" Who could possibly replace Tom Landry. Who could possibly replace Chuck Noll. Who could possibly replace Billy Cowher. In ALL of these cases -- and there are DOZENS more in the NFL and the NCAA -- the successor WON A CHAMPIONSHIP. In the case of Cowher and Tomlin, they were TOTAL UNKNOWNS that no one could have cited during these silly-assed, meaningless, no-brained "name me a guy who could possibly replace so and so....?"

The WEAK walk around, fearing everything and assuming that a coach is IRREPLACEABLE. We're not talking about replacing the lead engineer for the space shuttle, where there might be ONE person in the entire country brilliant enough to do the job. We're talking about the fairly simple matter of coaching a sport. Any number of coaches can step in and perform at a very high level of effectiveness. In the case of Dick The Dullard, he can, and should, be replaced.

Noll hadn't won squat in 10+ years, Cowher didn't win squat for 12 years....and only won after Big Ben showed up (same with Tomlin...what a coincidence!)

IMO, it's a lot easier to make a case to get rid of Noll and Cowher because they were "unsuccessful" (or more specifically, did not win the big one) for such a prolonged period of time. The Steelers have been to 3 super bowls in five years and won 2 of them. So I'm sorry this is not an apples to apples comparison in my opinion.

Again, I'm not saying Lebeau should not be replaced, I'm just saying many of the arguments used to suggest he should be replaced are not entirely compelling to me... and perhaps a few others on here : )

It's not like Dick benched Revis and let William Gay cover Nelson all night. That was Willie Gay out there and he's the best we have... That's not very good.

The reality is that the O has been terrible the entire playoffs and the D has been pretty good. The Offense gave up 16 points to go along with 7 turnvers in 3 games. How successful will any team be when playing good competition and being this careless with the ball?

Furthermore, the entire team looked uninspired from the word go on Sunday... Is this Dicks fault too?

Troy has been playing the Tampa Cover two for weeks... Doesn't that sound like a Mike Tomlin philosophy?

I didn't see much different in performance between Gay, McFadds, Madison, etc during the super bowl.... I sincerely think Nelson would have had success vs. any of those guys the way they played on that particular night. Also, those DBs, in my opinion, ALL played well below their normal levels... even Gay.... Gay had a few decent games this year and some terrible ones. I'm not sure why LeBeau would put Gay on big Jordy... perhaps there is an explanation, or perhaps you are correct that is was just a bad coaching move.... Has LeBeau or anyone else commented on it?

Again, I'm not sure why LeBeau kept Gay ...perhaps he was their best option considering the low quality of the rest of their DBs... perhaps there were no cheaper options or better options in the draft or free agency.... or perhaps you are right in that he had higher hopes for Gay and it didn't pan out.... however. So LeBeau is involved with choosing this personnel, yes? Regarding personnel, didn't you say recently about the Steelers D.... ("....a defense that has more talent, pedigree, depth, and experience than ANY defense in the NFL. Pee Wee Fuking Herman could run this defense and they'd still finish around # 9 or 10 in the NFL....."). So does LeBeau get any credit for helping obtain and then retain any of this 'most talented' defense??

Perhaps we are constantly reminded how great a coach LeBeau is because of how many points the Steelers give up per game compared to the rest of the NFL.... or should I say how few. Even against great teams we are still above average. But really... is the point to all these post how *overrated* he is?!?!? Who the hell cares how he is RATED or perceived by analysts, fans, etc.... what does that matter? All the matters is his actual performance, which you... even you... have described a few weeks ago as 'adequate'.... I care how he performs vs. other candidates that we might be able to get... I could give a rats arse how over or underrated he is!!!!!

This is the main, most valid point you've made. I was puking when I saw the Mike Maycock analysis on NFL network mentioning the exact same thing. The technique used by the Steelers at the LOS was horrible. Instead of jamming the WRs, the DBs turned their hips and gave the WRs a free release way too often. If this was the strategy, and it would seem so, then shame on the coaching staff and especially Mike Tomlin who must also be responsible for Troy playing in cover 2. Dick also deserves heavy amounts of blame for this, but Tomlin is a Defensive coach and he has done nothing to rectify any of the problems the past couple of years. Remember, it was Farrior that went to Dick earlier in the year, not Tomlin.

Back to the offense: For almost 4 full quarters of playoff football, the Steeler offense gave up 9 points will scoring only 3. From the second half of the Jet game to first half of the Super Bowl the Steelers offense was a minus 6 when on the field. hard to win games when you are this bad. The D saved the day against the Ravens as well...

Go back and look at the film and see how poorly focused the offense was the entire playoffs and see how grossly unprepared Ben was to play QB. Thank god we ran the ball in the first half of the Jet game, otherwise, we never make the Super Bowl.

The offense was the main culprit in these playoffs and so Arains and perhaps Ben should find somewhere else to play.

Your response is what is referred to as a straw man. You've assumed a point I don't make, then knock it down and then assume you've refuted me. I've never said LeBeau is irreplaceable. I've suggested it's stupid to fire him sans (yes, Mill I'm using the French privative! irony!) a BETTER alternative. Name who is better than LeBeau. If it's so fucking simple, then name anyone whatsoever who should replaced him. Because if we do not have a better alternative, then play will get worse, not better. Your problem is not that many of your readers are drinking kool-aid. Your problem is that too many of your readers are practical and are unaware of whom would be a better DC. Could there be a better DC? Certainly. Is there a better DC for the Steelers? That's possible. Who the fuk is it? 'Cause if we don't know, then we're gambling with embracing a mediocrity far more severe than what you complain about. But then again, that would give you a lot more to write about. But the secondary is a fucking shambles and I cannot argue with you on that front.
