Lets see if Goodell does something.........

Postby NJSteel27 » Mon Dec 28, 2009 9:01 am

Since Roger Goodell seems to be micromanaging EVERYTHING when it comes to the
NoFunLeague, lets see if he does something about the debacle in Indy yesterday.

There should be some rule that prevents a team from sitting a player who isn't injured, when the team has already wrapped up a playoff berth.

What about the fans, Roger-baby? I'm sure there were THOUSANDS in attendance, hoping the Colts would continue their unbeaten streak. Is their hard-earned money immaterial in this fiasco? They only got a half of a game, and a piss-poor half it was.........

Listening to their head coach at the press conference last night made me sick. As usual, they spew garbage just to make themselves sound important and to justify their actions. If what he said was correct and he pulled Peyton and company to rest them for the playoffs (and the unbeaten record was NOT something they planned for).....WHY DIDN'T HE REST THESE SAME GUYS IN THE PREVIOUS COUPLE OF GAMES?

The corruption in the nfl will only continue to escalate until the fans respond with decreased attendance at the games and less tv viewing. The nfl will more and more resemble the WWE.

You couldn't have said it any better, Coke Oven.
There seems to be a pervasive element of corruption in th NFL, especially when you analyze the final scores of games in relation to the betting odds.
Also, what bothers me even more is having a commissioner who claims to want to "weed out" the bad element in the NFL by imposing monetary sanctions on players who have less than choirboy reputations with the long arm of the law.
He should use the same fervor in establishing rules and regulations that don't destroy the integrity of the game. What happened yesterday in Indy was a travesty. The entire team should be punished for lying down like a dead dog and letting the loser Jets win that game.

It was disgraceful. I'm surprised Peyton accepted that. Somewhere Johnny Unitas is frowning. Idiot coach doesn't realize how many close games they have been in this year and that you need momentum going in the playoffs. It will be a months before they have to 'bring it' again, this time though it will be against a well-tuned, hungry, machine of a team. Please let it be us.

Everyone is right as to all the ramifications. I even said that sitting starters is tantamount to throwing the game. However, the reasoning, however unpalatable, is strategy, not corruption. It is perfectly legal and above board for a coach to make such decisions

However, the hailstorm that will ensue should the Colts lose in the playoffs, will do more than anything to prevent such actions in the future.

What, ohhhhhhh what will Marvin do next Sunday night ? ....................................................................

Resting starters could be a sound tactical or even strategic move. However if the game was thrown because of Las Vegas betting then that would indicate corruption. If the game was thrown because the nfl's linear programming model said that the league as a whole would rake in more green by doing so, then that would also indicate corruption. We just don't know.

Yes as to the forms of corruption, my statement was based upon Caldwell (motherfucking ahole) making an uninfluenced decision

I hear ya but Curtis Painter, as fuckin pathetic as he is, had every intention to shine and do well. I assure you Curtis did not take a dive

Motherfucking Caldwell, the Antichrist of the NFL, has doomed the Colts to an early exit from the playoffs. And the hailstorm that will ensue will mark his downfall

Just IMHO. NFL can do something about the situation. But Colts fans can do more.

E.g.,

(1) ask for a refund by arguing the game was a bait-and-switch,
(2) boycott the first playoff game. Even go further - sell their tickets to opponent fans for cheap, and ensure the stadium is not full.

Seriously, if Colts fans were so pissed at giving away an undefeated season, then they can retaliate by letting the team face adverse circumstances in their playoff game.

Team gives away an undefeated season?
Fans give away homefield advantage.

That, or simply cheer for the other team.

What's Goofell going to do? Fine Colts for misconduct? Bring a legal case against them for giving away the game? Find out if coach might have bet for Colts to lose outright?

However, Goofell can institute a new policy. If a team loses a game (drops a game) by pulling out starters without cause (e.g., injury, etc), then fans are entitled to a certain refund (50%, 100%, etc.)

What corruption? Do you honestly believe that the Colts don't want the Steelers in the playoffs? I doubt his decision had anything to do with the Steelers' playoff chances. Conspiracy theories are the thing of small minds.

Polian's presser yesterday was even worse than Caldwells after the game. Ugh. No sense of history...no respect for the game and its records.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/12/29/polian-surprised-by-reaction-to-pulling-starters/

He has the temerity to be "surprised." Out of touch, old man...out of touch. When you have the opportunity to make history and acheive greatness, you fight for it, tooth and nail. In 10 years, noone will remember or give a fuck who won Super Bowl 44, or that you have a regular season win streak spread out over two seasons that includes a playoff loss, but they would remember 19-0.

You can't f*cking blame the Colts for our demise. If they want to protect the best QB in the NFL, that is their right. Quite frankly, I'm almost insulted that the Stillers have to rely on other teams, considering the lame schedule they had where 10 wins, even if Ben were out all season, was assumed. The Stillers did this to themselves - they deserve to be left out & have to chew on this in the offseason.

Grill you are confusing threads. Noone on this thread is blaming the Colts for our demise. This is a "Caldwell is fucked for fucking the NFL thread" and all posts express pros and cons of his satanic strategy.

Well, if your mind and therefore maybe your IQ were a lot larger than it is we could have an interesting conversation about this. But here's a clue for ya. If it's done out in the open it's not a conspiracy.

Agrred Coke. Anytime a team does not play the game - it is a form of corruption. It is legal under the existing rules, but it is corrupt nonetheless.

This thread wouldn't be on fire like it is if we beat the teams we should beat. If the Chicago, K.C., Oakland, and Cleveland games were all wins, we'd be snickerig at what the Colts did. It was a jack off move by Caldwell. I'll laugh my ass off if Indy gets stomped out in the Divisional round. I also think Goodell will turn a blind eye to this situation with Indy
