Why Palko???

Postby Chazz » Wed Nov 25, 2009 11:58 pm

Batch is gone for several weeks, Big Ben is tenative to play coming off a concussion. So what do The Steelers do? Instead of opting for someone with actual game experience, they go out and sign hometown boy Tyler Palko. Someone who has been cut by several teams in the last couple of years, and has played 0 minutes in any game that has mattered in The NFL. So now you have 2 backup QBs on the roster with little to no game experience. Wonderful. This move reeks of something The Pittsburgh Pirates would do; I.E.-Go for the cheapest possible option. No matter what they say, it sure looks like this organization has thrown the towel in on this season, as I doubt Palko would've been signed if The Team was 7-3, or 8-2 and in the lead in their division. Thoughts?

On "Nightly Sports Call" with Bob P. tonight, they confirmed he was the 3rd QB on the roster behind Dixson. Gene Collier from The P.G. said he's doing an article tomorrow on how assinine this move was, considering Jeff Garcia is still on the market.

The Steelers won 2 Super Bowls the last 4 seasons. You should know that they know what they are doing by now. They are comfortable with Dixon as the backup. Now everything should make sense.

You mean like what they have been doing this year? I.E.-Not getting ready to play for a huge game, inept offensive play calling, not doing anything about the horrid special teams, etc. I don't care if they won 2 SBs the last 4 years, it has nothing to do with THIS season, and it certainly doesnt make them immune to well deserved criticism. Big Ben has no one with any real game experience backing him up should he take just one more hard hit again. The fact that they are fine with Dixson at the helm should Ben go down tells me all that I need to know on what they think their chances are of making the playoffs again. I'm sorry, but unless The Steelers were 3-7 at this point, that does not "make sense."

He isn't on the active roster, but he and Dixson are what's left should Big Ben go down. Scary.

I sure hope we are planning picking up Leftwich in the offseason. Batch is done. I do not believe Ben has ever taken every snap healthy.

if dixon hadnt been injured his senior year he would have likely been drafted first round. second at worst case scenario. he was only a few months out of surgery so he fell to us in the fifth.

dixon IS a starting caliber QB until proven otherwise.

I am no college football expert, but I do not believe that Dixon was going to be a first round pick. Teams who draft QBs first round are looking for franchise Qbs, which I don't think Dixon was ever projected to be.

Jeff Garcia sucks.

And Tyler Palko has game experience in the NFL.

I don't think Palko is any good, but Garcia's no better.

Are you serious? I'm not saying he's one of the all time greats, but he's a multiple time Pro Bowler, and he's won almost everywhere he's gone. Palko hasn't played a down of NFL Football that has meant anything. So how is Jeff Garcia "no better" than Palko?

That was then.

This is now.

Garcia is a WCO QB with no arm.

He sucks and is an ill fit for our system.

But a QB that was on The Practice Squad of a Canadian Football Team would fit our system better?

Well Palko sounds like Falco. And The Replacements was a good movie. So lets give him a chance. LoL

What an idiotic assaholic statement. NOONE is starting caliber until they prove it. Assenholin continues to show his ignorance.
