Steelers Will Lose

Postby SteelTank » Mon Jan 05, 2009 7:36 pm

The Steelers Will lose for two simple reasons:
1)Offensive Line play - We all know why
2)Slow LBs - Foote and Farrior and to a certain extent Harrison who is not exactly fast. The threat of Sproles and Gates might be too much for these guys to handle, especially Gates versus Foote and Farrior. Perhaps Troy will shadow Gates, but that's a size mismatch...

I'll stll pull for them, but I would have rather have played the Ravens. The only two things that can possibly save us are:
1)Throwing to Hines and Nate- Hines is still our best and most consistent player on "O" and needs to be the focal point of the offense while Nate could arguably be in favorable matchups all day. I would be totally shocked if Willie Parker was a factor at all in this game.
2)The Turf - It could be a long day for this crew unless field conditions turn this into a slop-fest once again. If everyone becomes slower then the Steelers will have a chance - if this game was in a dome you can forget about it. The hope here is that Gates and Sproles will be set up for target practice and succumb to big hits and give the ball back.

I hope I'm wrong or even right and we still win.

have some faith man. sure san diego is looking good, but i'm sure the steeler D won't allow sproles to get over 300 yards (which is the main reason why indy lost)

On the slow track....Sproles will be lucky if he doesn't leave via a stretcher.

I have never been more confident of a Steeler win.

Don't worry too much about the defense. They will hold their own against SD and have done so all season in spite of the horrendous situations our offense has put them in. The D is built around stopping the big play so it is difficult for an opposing offense to ring up big scores against them (13.9 ppg)

Our offense is a disgrace and Arians will be fired.

Amazing that you haven't been banned or at least flamed yet.

That would happen for sure on a certain other msg board, which I won't mention, except that it has "fury" in its name.

Hey tank, you must be drunk. Our D has stopped everyone, all season long. The Titans game was an anomaly...Gates has a bum ankle that won't heal in 6 days...Sproles is spent...the guy was exhausted after that game...it is going to be 18 degrees and snowy at game time...the turf will be hard...LeBeau will come up with some wacky formations that will have Rivers running for his life...Ben will pull his head out of his ass...Moore will spell Willie...Hines/Nate/Santokio will come up big...

Hey Steeltank, I can't belive you have the gull to question Harrison and say that he is slow. Foote and Farrior, yes, but leave the NFL Defensive Player of the Year out of that kind of bull shit talk.

You could of said the Steeler might lose or the Steelers will have a hard time, but a say they will lose???? What has Gates ever done against us?? We have always put a lid on him. Now, Sproles I'm a little concerned. If the Chargers are smart, they will get out the game film of Tashard Choice and see how the Cowgirls used him to exploit our slower LB's.

Jumbo and Slep - why are you guys so sure we win? I thought I would feel this way last week, but now I don't know... I've just got a bad feeling.

BigE - I love Harrison! Sorta. Anyway, the man is the defensive player of the year, but he's not fast. Probably the reason he was never a starter in this league until he was 29 years old. Still, he can get the job done. Farrior and Foote just plain stink and it's looking like Hampton has added 40 lbs since training camp. The middle is ripe to be exploited.

Tell me I'm wrong and why - don't give me this rah, rah stuff. I'm an old man and I need some rational reason why we dont go down this weekend. The best I've heard so far is the weather and the D being stout all year. Good reasons.

What about that offense though? I don't hear anyone talking about why there's hope with the O.

I am very concerned about this game. :suxfingers: By luck (i.e. Tomlinson injury), the Chargers have figured out they are a more dangerous team when Sproles gets a ton of touches. The Chargers also look healthier with the exception of Tomlinson and maybe Gates.

The Chargers are not afraid of us. That 11-10 game only gave them confidence I am sure. They also probably have lost that "how are we going to lose this one" attitude that plagued them for much of the season.

The Steelers have a very limited offense and thus we are dependent on turnovers by the opponent and our ability to limit any big plays by the opponent on offense. All it takes is a quick hand-off to Sproles on third down and for him to catch a gap and he is gone. I agree it will be like Tashard Choice in the Cowboy game except with speed.

I do think Timmons may play a lot more to try to limit Gates and the other speed issues in favor of the Chargers. We all better hope the Steelers bring their best game. :sufootballhelmet: By the way, this is why 8-8 teams that flounder all season should not make the playoffs. It completely denigrates what the season is all about. Every game the Chargers really needed to win during their 4-8 start to establish themselves as a playoff team, they lost. And yet, they got in anyway. Nice message. :sushootem: Now they have a chance to beat us -- a team that won many tough games to prove it belonged.

You are worried about Sproles and he can be factor but if you watched the Indy game most of his yards came from running or catchich to the O left side.He did not get tons anywhere else. He is not a real threat to run though the middle too many times unless he has a death wish. We need to keep pressure on Rivers and knock him around a little. If we get into his head their Offense will dwindle. Gates can not catch balls that don't get there, and I can not believe that you guys are that worried about a TE with a bad ankle who at times last week didn't play well.
I am more concerned with the Steelers beating themselves. If the O plays average or better and doesn't turn the ball over we win. Our Defense is a lot better than Indys' so Rivers will have a bigger poblem. All that momentum they have can be stopped with 2, 3 and outs and a score by our O and then it will be S.D. trying to play catch up. They are not a team that is designed to hit deep often. Talk about our lack of speed at LB? What about their LBs? I see Moore and FWP getting some good yards off of their LBs and WRs getting good yardage after short passes ( If Boneheads Tomlin, Arians, and Ben utilize this). I see our Defenseout to proove something and the O having to show up.

I am feeling good until we get a 1st and 10 with 1:45 left up by 3 and Tomlin/Arians call 2 runs up the middle then a QB draw up the middle.

Gates will be a non-factor if TROY shadows him (like he did before).

Take that to the bank.

Tank, take your doubt to another board. Steelers are going to roll this weekend, and make that 11-10 game look like the officiating abortion that it was! :sufootballhelmet:

Tank, no rah-rah stuff here...The Steelers played the toughest schedule in the NFL this year by W-L record of teams from last year and this was fact. They finished with 12 wins in 16 games, pretty impressive. They also finished with the top-ranked defense in the league. With the exception of the anomaly in Tenn, they lost the other 3 games by an average of 6 points or less...They did not get blown out. Period. This says something about their defense and you know that defense is what wins the ring...Here are the SB winners from 2000-2005, look at the rankings of offense and defense. The Steelers in 08 ranked as 22nd in offense and 1st in defense.

2000 Baltimore Ravens – 16th ranked offense, 1st ranked defense
2001 New England Patriots - 19th ranked offense, 24th ranked defense
2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 24th ranked offense, 1st ranked defense
2003 New England Patriots – 18th ranked offense, 7th ranked defense
2004 New England Patriots – 7th ranked offense, 9th ranked defense
2005 Pittsburgh Steelers – 16th ranked offense, 4th ranked defense

The Steelers will shut down SD this week as the old man LeBeau will have a few things up his sleeve. The weather, the turf and the Steelers D will be the difference..

I am torn in this game, I really do want the Steelers to win, but I can't see it happening. I would MUCH rather face Pittsburgh than San Diego in the AFC Championship.

That being said, I will go out on a limb.

Steelers: 14
Chargers: 13

Please prove me right.

I wouldn't worry about anyone besides the Ravens PA Titan!

If you do survive that game...then you can start worrying!

I agree Jumbo, even though it'll be a tough matchup NO MATTER WHAT (this is playoff ball, kids) I feel we will have our way with them.

PA Titan, you should be more concerned with your teams game this week. The Titans are in for a much harder battle! In fact, I am fairly certain it will be one and done for you and and your 90 year old journey-man qb! :sufootballhelmet:

That prediction just shows you don't know football, much less the NFL. I'll have to come back Saturday and tell you told ya so.

My team is going to win, the Steelers game has my opponent for next week.
